A spare tire should be a must. One flat tire and a tow more than makes up for the extra weight. And what to you think about the AIr Shims?
@OldGuyonaBike12 сағат бұрын
The hitch is much beefier on the Goldwing. The extra tongue weight of a spare shouldn't be a problem. I really like the air shims. They are going to save my back this summer.

I believe I have seen the majority of your 106 day trip and looking forward to 2024. I'm heading out with my camper and Can Am Spyder on 7-11. Not sure yet how long I'll stay on the road but I'm certain it will be a blast. Heading Northwest, Black Hills, Dakotas, Wyoming, Idaho, Montana, and maybe Oregon and Washington. Will probably spend a bit of time in Colorado, Utah, New Mexico and Arizona while heading back toward Memphis. Have you seen the road trip developed by a cartographer which circles the states and staying in 70 F year round, he also has a spur thru Canada and up to Alaska? Maybe soon. If only I could learn how to shoot the video and edit it.

I leave Newfoundland on July 9th and stick mostly in Canada until Winnipeg and then heading down to the Black Hills, Yellowstone and Montana (first weekend of August) then out to British columbia for a couple of weeks before going down the PCH. Robert, I've got a couple of those made up for the awning and tarp poles. Small one for my "raccoon secure" garbage container although the raccoons thought it was great to play with one of the nights at Black Donald. I was thinking that tube would be a good thing there.

I've upped my battery storage capacity since that video and also upped the solar capabilities. I need to make a new video on that. There are a number of videos that show my packing. There is a fair bit of storage. I went with a Little Buddy propane heater as I did not want to deal with any liquid fuels.

@OldGuyonaBike3 күн бұрын
I've hauled the Mini Mate for over 50,000 km over three seasons. The ST handled it quite well. Gas milage dropped about 10-15%, replaced brake pads more often but was quite happy with how it handled. I put the ST into a ditch last summer and will be riding an older Goldwing this year.

I haven't had a chance to wire in the new harness but I have pulled the trailer around the town and out on the highway for a short run. The lower gearing on the Goldwing certainly makes it much smoother from a stop. Did not feel the trailer behind me at all. The ST1300 was good to tow with but the Goldwing will be much better.

Good to see you have closed this chapter of your adventure. Looking forward to the next chapter, this time you'll have reverse to help with the mini-mate positioning, however you'll have also gained a couple hundred pounds!
@OldGuyonaBike9 күн бұрын
Yes, winter was hard on me. Can barely fit into riding pants... oh, you meant the Goldwing. It's only about 100 lb. heavier. Have discouvered if I pump the rear shocks up it is easier to get on the centre stand. Have only sed reverse once to see how it works. It still might be faster to unhitch and manually maneuver the Mini Mate when I need to back it into somewhere. I can see the reverse being handy though.

Great series! At 67 I've come to peace with the fact I'll never be a biker. I could have bought a BMW with what I spent on bike magazines over the years. My Dad was an X-Ray tech who rarely slept through the night without answering a call, many were bike crashes. Anyway, at retirement we got a small trailer (sorry for holding you up) and have taken at least one extended 3-4 month trip every year. 2023 took us to Atlantic Canada including 3 months in Newfoundland inspired in part by some of your earlier videos. Poor ferry planning kept us on the western coast but we hope to return and see more. Thanks for the inspiration!
