Driving while the snow was falling heavily, especially at night, was bad on the eyes and dangerous. How plowmen do it is beyond me. I fear I would have been mesmerized and fallen asleep. It's bad enough in a heavy rain during daylight. Kudos.

Plowed snow for 30 years for MoDot. State of Missouri. Retired in 2008 and never looked back. When i first started we got called out all hours of the night but they finally started running two shifts from 7:30 to 7:30. That was so much better knowing when you were going to work and when you were getting off. You guys have some nice equipment. We had the front plow, wing plow and a couple of tow plows but mostly International trucks. Had three motorgraders but i never liked running them.

My dad retired from PennDot literally a day before he died. He started off working for a drilling company driving their 100000 ppound rig from site to site back in the 80s but as we the kids got older he wanted to be home more then 2days every other weekend so he started working for the Township we lived in and eventually went to the state side of it. But in the winter time if it was gonna be a real bad storm and they call school off the night before id go with him and work the lever for the cinders when he told me to. We lived on the family farm at that point out in the country side of SwPa. Was always fun being the first person out on the roads during a snow storm. U guys are badasses to say the least. Nothing better then riding around with your pops plowing snow.. dont think penndot would of allowed me in the truck but the township was just a bunch of country men doing whatever they could to keep things going.

Awesome videos and I thank you for taking them. I too know what you refer to about driver's who knowingly won't turn on headlights or remove as much snow as possible from their autos/trucks before they hit the roads. They endanger everyone by making their vehicle's hard to see in blinding snow storms. IN the US its a required by law that all vehicles turn on their lights when the sun sets yet many do not and our police do not have the time I believe to stop and tag them. I myself have plowed snow most of my life but in smaller full sized PU trucks yet I still with all my warning lights have fools pull out in front of me almost causing major accidents. I did a small test to see what would happen if my snow plow struck an auto at slow speeds of 5 MPH and it cut open the cars door like a can opener! Imagine the damage if I hit someone at greater speeds because they did not yield the right of way! I can easily adjust my driving, speed for all road conditions yet the wild card is always the idiots who shouldn't be allowed to drive a battery operated child's car let alone a real one when roads are dangerous, IMHO. Someday I plan on buying an older dump truck with the larger equipment to start plowing larger parking lots and sanding. Your video helped me see how it's done safely.Ty again.

I can remember a cbc radio interview with a nefi snowplow driver that quit. The snow was so high that it covered cars completely and you couldn't see them. He hit three cars in one day and quit, my nerves can't handle it.
@JimHowDigsDirt Жыл бұрын
Yeah, that would much snow would be hard on the nerves. They really get dumped on sometimes over in Newfoundland!

I am a snow plow driver in the european alps, we alwys drive with chains on, at least on the steering axle. And we do drive 40kph but without a side plow

I just watched your video riding your honda varadero up that mountain pass. By the looks of your roads, I see now why you always run chains on the front all the time! Anybody reading this want to see an incredible road, check out SuperV8drivers video. Thanks for sharing brother! kzbin.info/www/bejne/jYKzh3qDqq6Hmac

How do you like the single joystick for the plow controls? My truck has smaller individual joysticks for each function (front plow, wing, underbody, and box lift)
@JimHowDigsDirt Жыл бұрын
I didn't much care for it at first because I would have to have to look at the buttons to see what I which one to press, but now that I am used to it I really!

I work for a county road dept here in WA State and I go out plowing snow when we get it. I wish we had the set up those trucks up there had. Would make our job much easier.
@JimHowDigsDirt Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I must admit these trucks are set up pretty good! Since I started driving this automatic shifting Mack three years ago, it sure made my life easier and I am a lot less fatigued at the end of a long shift. Thanks for watching Mike!

I plow in Washington State for a county and was wondering about your wipers. Ours get frozen and snow builds up on them. We have to clean them every couple miles. Thanks drive safe
@JimHowDigsDirt Жыл бұрын
Yes, some nights it hard to keep then clean. I always carry an extra set of wiper in the truck because you never know when they are going to fail under those conditions.
@johnwolford4085 Жыл бұрын
Looks like your trucks need the covers for the grills to keep the blowing snow from freezing .. that needs to be a standard option I would think . I love watching these videos , we hardly get any snow here in Ohio anymore, I miss getting any significant snow like we did when I was growing up
@JimHowDigsDirt Жыл бұрын
I agree! Funny they haven't figured that out yet. We don't get much snow here anymore like we did when I was a kid. Or maybe it just seems that way as I was a lot shorter back then, lol
@michaelbefumo-qg7ji Жыл бұрын
You can't keep the grill covered it depends on the temperature. The engine will overheat if it's 35° 25°with no are getting to raderator,.

All of the plow trucks around here use belly plows end rear side blades and only put on the big front plows when we get 2 or more feet of snow. Do you guys only use the big front plows on the dump trucks? Or do you have a few with belly blades as well?
@JimHowDigsDirt Жыл бұрын
No belly plow in these parts! At least I have never seen ant around here.
