One time I had nothing but a bike to get around on and had to ride entire tracks to an appointment The snow was piled up on the edge of the road up over the curb, it was just a mountain I had cars behind me honking angrily, but they saw the obvious, I couldn't get over and was stuck with just tire tracks to get to and from my appointment Not one of those angry drivers cared to help When we had several feet of snow piled up along the main drag and only tire tracks on the main drag, snow was several inches thick But yet again drivers had the gall To hog at me knowing I couldn't go nowhere but in those tire tracks I got to my appointment and it was actually open After my appointment I had to return home exactly as I came, following in the tire tracks, and again no one cared to stop and help Sometimes when you're huffing and puffing out in the cold, there comes a brief moment when your lungs suddenly hurt and you can feel every single passage, it FEELS like you're gonna DIE! Limit exposure when it's too cold, and if you DON'T have to go out, just DON'T It's one thing if you're going from home to car, or if you're walking or biking a short distance on a decent day, just make sure you don't do any extra traveling During those times you don't have to be out, just don't go out and if possible, don't even open your door

Someone should make of a video of how to drive in deep snow. The truck at 0:25 in this video is not going anywhere anymore without heavy equipment because he dug himself into a hole in which his wheels are now spinning. That is a common mistake drivers make. If the vehicle stops moving, clutch in and reverse. Tread the snow by driving back and forth. If you park a hot car with its underbody resting on snow, it will melt the snow and glue itself in. Spinning tires on a car that's frozen on snow finalizes the wait for spring condition.

@CrayOutoors29 күн бұрын
Honestly those roads weren't crowded, I think most people did stay home. Some people have no choice, I had to go to 40 minutes to work to keep things plowed (fortunately I've only had one day that was a terrible drive so far). This particular snow event (2 different storms) lasted for about 2 weeks in Eden, there were only a couple days in-between the 2 storms. People need to go to work eventually. Also as they said, the lake effect snow comes off the lake in narrow bands. It can be fine one place and then a complete white-out 10 minutes down the road. When the snow-warning is issued its difficult to tell whether or not it's actually going to affect your drive around here. You can also end up in a situation were your drive to work is fine, but then the band shifts north or south and your drive home is insane! But anyway, I do have sympathy for the snow plow (totally understandable) and the lady that needed to go to work as a mental health counselor. I don't necessarily know why the empty trucks felt that they needed to try and drive through the snow band...

Three years ago, I took advantage of an overturned plow and went (later, when the snow was gone) and filled the truck up with the discarded sand. I still have a small pile left. People saw my wife and I filling wheelbarrows (could not stop on risky corner) and dumping it into the bed and began their own salvage operation. This attracted the police, who closed it down because so many people didn't ask the landowner for permission to drive up next to it, so they stopped on the street. A lot of idiots around, even after the snow is gone. A handy berm let me back the tailgate into the hill and we just wheeled it in. Wished I had a front loader, it would have been very quick and easy. Amazing how much trouble four inches of snow causes in the Seattle/Everett area. Can't wait to see four feet sometime (never is a long time to wait).

Dude - you’re obviously not from western or central NYS….? This is now an average winter weather cycle - it used to be, back in the 60s-80s, that the snowfall, whilst formidable (commencing in early Nov through EOM March), totaling up to 200”/season, was fairly predictable, w/ maybe a big Nor’easter blizzard yrly, but nowadays, w/ the Great Lakes no longer getting iced over, the relatively “warm” Lake Erie and Lake Ontario are now just huge catalysts for the infamous “lake effect” phenomenon, wherein some areas, maybe only a few miles apart, will have drastically different snowfall accumulations… this is the new reality that has taken hold commencing in the 90s through today…

and it's all going to melt (again) when even just 20 years ago when I was a kid we had several months of snow on the ground. now it's freeze-thaw-freeze-thaw all winter long if even that. can't even build snow forts anymore there's never enough snow and you sure won't be able to go inside of it a few days after if you happen to get enough because it'll all be gone

Ontario has rarely frozen above 50% since NOAA records began in 1973. Erie has frozen over only in 1977, 78 and 1996. 1977 was the worst blizzard Buffalo has seen in modern times due to the snow being blown across the frozen lake.

And yet another reason that I don’t live in WNY anymore. Frostbite on fingers ears wrists and toes from shoveling snow as a kid. I used to get so mad because the state plows would push 3 feet of heavy wet snow into the front of our driveway that when I saw them coming, I would stand in the road in front of the driveway lean on my shovel and force them to go around me or hit me!

Where is global warming?
@martyk1156Ай бұрын
This is the result of the lake being to warm due to global warming. Lake erie has not even frozen over in the last few years making storms like this possible all winter long.
@GeorgePippin-bi6dvАй бұрын
That IS global warming...educate yourself
@PadoinkyАй бұрын
Y’all are a simpleton? This is the result of global warming - the Great Lakes use to freeze over solid each winter - the Arctic freeze air flows, following the jet stream, still flow west->East and move north to south as the jet stream flows… the weather systems in the past were not always able to pick up moisture from the iced over Great Lakes and thus the snowfalls were more predictable… now, w/ lakes Erie and Ontario no longer freezing over, those same Arctic air patterns cross over open and warmer waters, sucking up moisture and upon hitting higher land, they dump prodigious amounts of snowfall in isolated bands, causing drastically different conditions and snowfall in towns north of the lakes, wherein towns 5 miles apart one might have 6” whilst the other one has 2’… the new climate reality

Learned a valuable lesson during the last storm I was involved in a pretty nasty accord on my way to work due to weather conditions. I am consider essential I can drive thru travel bans but next time I’ll call into work. Everyone is who’s driving thru it just think is injuring yourself or others or even possibly worse worth going to work or to store etc. Please just stay home work can wait. Yes I do know some people haft to go to work like hospital staff and such but if you have the option to stay home stay home. This accident changed my life and how I’ll handle winter.
