@leianehiltz24862 жыл бұрын
It's very hard to extend that idea of "everyone makes mistakes" when they go on to make the same ones over and over. Not getting it right with her first 2 kids wasn't an excuse to go to have 3 more. "She couldn't stop her ex husband from having kids"!!! What?? Yeah you can. Kids cost a lot and since there wasn't a big enough commitment to have a marriage with kids work out, seems too big of a risk to take. I had that choice and it kills me I never got to have children. I just didn't feel safe enough to take the plunge. I sure didn't assume, oh well, I can get benefits to raise my kids on. How many times do we see benefits become a generational thing. Kids running amuck, when litttle. Hit teens and have kids of their own. There's a place for government support and it's not to provide the privilege of having kids and obviously not be able to provide properly for them. It's a hole that's hard to get out when you see your parents live on benefits all your life. Sounds harsh but given this is what the media shows us, it's all I see

Also addictions are often a symptom of a larger problem with the person. Think of the vice they are addicted to as the painkiller to the injury (mental health) they have. Imagine having a broken arm and a painkiller next to you. You'd definitely take it wouldn't you rather than sit in pain? These people had a Empire that the Sun never set on and were victorious in the Napoleonic Wars and both World Wars as well as living in a country that was one of the first to industrialize. Now they just sit around and collect benefits. The "PAINTER" needs to realize he is just a competent amateur and his paintings will never hang in a gallery. He will never make a living off of them and he should find a job and keep painting as a hobby. Five children, two of which are being raised by her parents, why isn't the children's father paying support? The taxpayers aren't responsible for her bad decisions. Nobody has money for essentials but there's always money for cigarettes and alcohol.

There was always the " genuine poor " & " impoverished " here in the UK when the Empire was at its height. They lived 2 or 3 families or 10 people to one room, even those in work had only the basics & more often than not shared a 2 room slum. The dreaded workhouse or dosshouses were the only place for many. The rich got richer & the poor got poorer, as has always been the case. However, the taxpayer can't & shouldn't be expected to keep the feckless or the inadequate ! There should be a way to make men & women accountable for the many children they procreate, without once giving a thought as to how they're going to raise them, but what the solution is I don't really know, apart from capping benefits to two children only & imaking these feckless men & women be accountable & responsible for the children they procreate. The sad thing, is that their children are going to see them as a role model. That being said, I've known children from deprived families, grow up to not wanting that lifestyle for themselves & have flourished In my generation their was no such thing as benefits for mother's or their babies born out of wedlock, they were either adopted, brought up within the family, which was the usual case, or the pregnant young woman married the baby's father, often not ideal, as the law was pro men & pregnant unmarried women were looked upon as immoral. Lucky was the young woman, if the father of her child paid maintenance. They relied on blood tests to prove fatherhood, if the young woman, who more often than not had been his steady girlfriend, took a man to court for maintenance, many unscrupulous men went to court with their friends, all giving evidence that they'd had sex with the unfortunate young woman. So not many women wanted to go through the trashing of her morals. The benefits system is too lucrative for many people, who have the audacity of calling it " pay. " The PAINTER as you called him, showing your contempt for his work, might have made a decent living out of his art, had he taken the opportunity to go to Art School/College. Let's not forget that many of the Masters, like Michael Angelo etc were once amateurs who were tutored by the Masters of the day. It was his decision to do nothing. Everybody shown made the decision to bum off the State.

As a person born in Yorkshire who immigrated to Australia on the $10 scheme to, I find these stories to be eye opening. I find the comments to be so English, and they remind me of my father, who was straight up in how he expressed himself. I can’t comment on the people in the stories, because, I find every thought I have is covered by the hilarious, pithy retorts, which in actual fact are far more entertaining than the actual stories.
