@@aj478 That's because it's a waste of time to the police. They cannot convict them of a crime unless the value of goods exceeds past £200. It is up to the shop owner themselves to discipline these individuals. It's sad but to the police which is overstimulated in drug and violence cases they aren't going to come and arrest someone who steals a packet of custard creams and some pickled onion monster munch.

This should win awards. From what started as a typical shoplifters caught on camera type show, the depth of work, research, risk and dedication of the team behind the show and those journalists who went undercover, has exposed MORE than the police detectives could do. The police need more funding and resources. Thanks channel 4, what a career an investigative journalist must be.

We can't find the police properly as all the money is going on the immigrants and their multi appeals like the Bangladeshi Shamima Begum four appeals the last one at the EU Court of Human rights. Inc translator's and interpreters. The huge sums are also going to foreign aid.....there is no money left to protect us. Our military is reduced to 40,000 regulars and because of Teresa May the control of them has gone to the UN and Europe. The leaving of the EU cost us 48 billion pounds. They left the Irish border open, the fishing rights a mess, the EU Court of Human Rights etc so Starmer can press gang us back into the corrupt EU Peace out 🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🍀

So sad. I tend to shop at Morrisons regularly. I walked past the petrol pump a few weeks ago and saw a £10 note. Then I saw a wad of notes blowing around the forecourt. I picked them up and held them for all to see, I handed the notes in to customer services. They counted it and there was £310 in total. A week later my local Morrisons phoned me to say that the money had been reunited with its owner. I had just lost my lovely husband. The owner was so grateful for my honesty that he put £40 in an envelope for me for a reward. I will put it towards my husband's headstone. I don't know the identity of the person who originally lost the cash but honesty is the best policy.

I think starting with the laws needing a good shake up and courts dishing out appropriate punishments Problem is courts rather slap fines on people make money than actually punishing people with a decent sentence But also stores can do more to stop or rather make it a lot harder by not allowing customers coming into stores with bags especially bags big enough to hold lots KF items I live abroad now and how they do things here certainly works shoplifting does happen but not much simply because they would get jailed if convicted and sentences can range from 4 to 12 years Stores don't allow customers to carry bags into shop floors to stop people stuffing items in bags customers have to leave their bags at a courtesy booth tho women can take handbag Also here they usually have plenty security guards as well many KF whom are packing normally a handgun but have seen some malls where guards are lacking shot guns haha hell even police here sometimes seen packing M16s no kidding So yep it's no wonder shoplifting is rarely heard of here So yes there are things super markets can do to minimize shoplifting but I guess it might piss some people off especially leaving bags at courtesy booths even I do here when carrying my laptop can be a bit inconvenient

When I lived in UK I was once helped on my way home from an operation at NHS hospital in London, by a young Romanian who told me how hard it is for them to survive. A couple of weeks later I found out that a total of ten of them are living in a welfare housing that was originally assigned to an Indian family. They charged 350GBP per person plus utility costs. The house was barely big enough for 5 people. With everything accounted for, this family was making anywhere upwards of 5000GBP tax free and in cash from these guys, and of course the government welfare assistance. When I reported them, only the Romanian guys got the short end as they were not legally in UK at the time. The Indian family still receives welfare and housing.

The police exist to protect the Establishment from the people. People wrongly believe the police are here to serve and protect them. They are not. Say something bad about the government or its agendas and watch how quickly they are smashing your door down and locking you up for 10 years for saying some truth about the immigrants on Facebook. All the evidence is right there from the Blackpool stabbings. The police and the Establishment don't give a singular frig about shoplifting, burglaries, ra pes. Their job is twofold : 1. to rake in as much revenue for the State as they can through fines - speeding for example. 2. to sit there on twitter and facebook all day watching for anyone criticising the government or its policies, with immigration being the current hot potato.

There is a third option you overlook. Why would the police pay for the Morrisons security? If the store cuts costs everywhere, doenst employ security guards, open automated cash registers to further cut staff costs... Why should the police float the bill for the security consequenses of that? I mean, if you can just literally grab a 1000 quid worth of stuff and just walk out... What sort of business are you exactly running? If you want to get rich by cutting corners everywhere, sure, but dont ask the tax payer to solve the issues you run in to as a result of that.

@@ageoflove1980 I agree with what you're saying however my point is not about preventing the crime from happening. Police can't stop that. But they could investigate, arrest and bring these criminals to face justice. These journalists did half of that.

@ageoflove1980 29 күн бұрын
@@jda974 Well yeah, they could but that costs society a lot of money. One single prisoner costs the taxpayer over 50,000 quid a year. Not to mention the costs of the policing, the trials and all that. And just handing out fines is also quite pointless... A 1000 quid fine isnt going to do anything if they can make that back with a single haul. And if all that would solve the problem, then sure. But im afraid the only thing you achieve there is combat the symptom, not the cause. If these stores continue with their frankly ridiculous business practices, there would be a whole new group doing the exact same thing before you know it. You cant change human nature, and as long as you can just walk in, grab 1000s worth of stuff and walk out, people are going to do that. The police simply has a finite amount of resources and they rather spend it on more serious crimes instead of some corporation that cant be arsed to employ a security guard and actual cashiers because its shareholders dont like spending money.

In my local shop the shoplifting has got so bad you have to queue at the counter first to even get a basket to put your things in now. Another area a large co-op that had been there for decades was shut down in the last few years. People were walking in grabbing all the meat and toiletries and just walking out. No employee is going to fight a shoplifter for chicken and sausages. Got so bad and blatant it was a security risk for those working there, for other people just shopping and it wasn't worth doing business anymore. The knock on effect for the old people in the area who couldn't drive or go very far was substantial. Lots of them used to go there as their little walk just to talk to someone or bump into someone they knew and buy the few bits they needed for the day. My gran was one of them. So sad.

18:22 Gipsies/Roma have originated in India, not Romania, they have been in Europe for hundreds of years, including in the UK for 500+ years, they have mixed in with the Irish Travellers. The Roma came from the Dalit subgroup, their original name in sanskrit was Doma डोम. The biggest number of Gipies other than India are in Turkey, not Romania. Spain (Gitanos), Bulgaria, Serbia, Hungary, Slovakia etc. also have a lot of them. This reporter thinks because Roma/Romanian sounds similar, they are the same people. Romanians are a mix of Balkan and Slavic Europeans, they are totally different people. Romania used to be called Dacia in antiquity and Dacians were a sub-group of the Thracians (Orpheus was Thracian), some Roman emperors had Dacian and Thracian origins. The name Romania comes from the Roman conquest of Dacia. Gipsies were literally ensl-ved by Romanians in medieval times because they were foreigners, so how could you confuse them?

I used to work in a department store in the 80s and the security staff were all ex-armed services and in plain clothes. They were extraordinary in their attitude to their work. If something got stolen and they failed to spot and stop the perpetrator they were gutted. They took real pride in stopping theft, and they were prepared to physically stop shoplifters to the extent I witnessed full blown fights. I'm not sure what the law is now, or if policy is governed by the employers, but if shoplifters know they can steal without being challenged physically the problem will continue and grow, particularly with the influx of foreign gangs. I particularly feel sorry for shop workers who have to deal with this behaviour and also small businesses who are really impacted by theft. Unfortunately, this is another aspect of declining standards in British society which has been governed by weak leadership and acceptance of persistent criminal behaviour. This country is slowly committing suicide.

The police organising that raid was about as much use as a chocolate teapot...so they were watching the house prior to the raid, right? 🙄 ...that was embarrassing, and they were even laughing at themselves 🙄 The sentence the thieves received, they'll both be out in 7 months tops. The whole judiciary system is a joke, and it's the average shopper who's not a criminal that are penalised with higher prices for these organised crimes. All the high street shops, supermarkets, and police need to crack down on these thefts and start making examples of them. Give them two years for 1st offence 4 years for 2nd and 10 years for 3rd offence. Everyone who's an opportunitist is going to jump on the band wagon Don't let us get any closer to anarchy...

I remember watching Roger Cook; probably before this journalist was even born. The standard of investigative journalism back in the late 1980s was exceptional. There were others who went before him in the 1970s, including the greatest of them all - Mr John Pilger. If anybody has not heard of him, some of his fifty or so documentaries are here on KZbin. They are a treat to behold, as are the few documentaries on the man himself. This particular documentary was a vast improvement on what we've been force fed under the guise of journalism this last twenty years or so. I hope the man at the centre of it is allowed to grow into his calling without pressure to conform to 'editorial lines' otherwise known as agendas. Well done to all involved 👍

shoplifting to get rich is more depraved than doing it to feed an addiction. They're both bad, but the addict you can at least sympathise with them because their existence is torture which drives their desperation.

As a Romanian immigrant in the UK this absolutely angers me. I came over in 2014, got my documents in order applied for a job and been paying taxes since. Worked my a$$ off from a KFC pots washer to now an Operations Manager. Proper vetting is needed before you let people into the country. If you are contributing to the country’s economy I have no issues but if you are a pest and trying to fiddle your way around the system “go back where you come from” (borrowed the good old phrase lol).
