Dylan has described his reaction to hearing Hendrix's version: "It overwhelmed me, really. He had such talent, he could find things inside a song and vigorously develop them. He found things that other people wouldn't think of finding in there. He probably improved upon it by the spaces he was using. I took license with the song from his version, actually, and continue to do it to this day." In the booklet accompanying his Biograph album, Dylan said: "I liked Jimi Hendrix's record of this and ever since he died I've been doing it that way... Strange how when I sing it, I always feel it's a tribute to him in some kind of way."

The Wah pedal sounds like the guitar making vowel sounds, mimic an electric guitar sound while saying "wah-wah-wah", you'll hear it; I will never, ever tire of hearing this song, it always hits the same too since the first listen, a true masterpiece and a genius musician.

Stevie Ray Vaughan used Jimi's pedal when he covered Jimi's songs. Stevie idolized Jimi. He learned to play Jimi's songs and personally went to visit Jimi's father and requested his permission to cover them. His father not only approved, he gifted him with Jimi's pedal. Asia and BJ need to react to Stevie Ray Vaughan. He was just as good as Jimi, if not better. I love them both for different reasons.

I was blessed to be able to see Jimi perform twice, the first time was on February 5th 1968, my 17th birthday, in a small venue just as he was starting to really come into the public's attention. I still have the framed poster for that concert and the $3 ticket price blows my grandkids away.

Jimi Hendrix first Lp was "Are you experienced" his 2nd was "Axis Bold as love" This tune was written by Bob Dylan and off the double Lp "Electric lady land" Jimi did "Like a rolling stone" by Dylan at "Monterey Pop Festival live. Rick Cain is correct. Bob Dylan said Jimi did the greatest version of his song, he felt it was always Jimmies tune, he just channeled it. One of the greatest Covers recorded. Jimi used a Fuzz face Distortion, Cry baby Wah wah pedal , Dallas Arbiter Univibe, Small stone Phase shifter & Echoplex. Thank you guys.

I read that Bob Dylan's manager gave Jimi a list of his songs they wanted Jimi to rearrange and cover for Dylan, after hearing Watchtower and Like a Rolling Stone. But Jimi preferred to create his own music and his manager, Michael Jeffries nixed the ides because it wouldn't have resulted in royalties for Jimi❣️

Debate it all you want between SRV and Jimi, we cannot, there is no comparison. Each stands alone with their individual greatness. Each blows me away with their gifts. However, I will point out two uniqueness of Jimi, left landed and wah wah, without it...Food for thought . BJ, I knew the moment you looked at Asia, the recognition. And the excitement. It's always a great feeling to watch or younger gens just rock out. This is what we had guys, no phones or media, we had a hard wired phone to a wall, TV, newspapers, radio and records, that was our social media. And concerts, concerts were huge!! I read in Leon Hendrix's book (Jimi's younger brother) that Jimi's music was the soundtrack for Vietnam soldiers. The soldiers all loved Jimi but the officers resented him and took it out on Leon when Leon was in the army--especially after hearing Jimi's definitive rendition of the Star Spangled Banner at Woodstock, which is now legendary and accepted by many as an iconic masterpiece of interpretation. Also, Jimi had been a 101st Squadron Airborne trooper. Go figure. I guess much was forgiven after Hendrix's death. Americans can be fickle like that, but all props go to the UK for appreciating and promoting Jimi and his music. England has several monuments honoring Jimi and his residents while there and places he played. He also wished to be buried in England, it was where he felt most at home. RIP Jimi-- never forgotten❣️

This was a Bob Dylan song, that Jimi did a version of. Actually, Jimi stayed pretty true to the original. Dylan loved Jimi's version and basically said "It's Jimi's song now." They knew each other very well. Talk about two Giants in the music industry. Dylan was a folk singer, before he, (and many others) crossed over into the Rock scene in the mid 60s.

When Jimi recorded this it was the most complex studio song of all time. This one song took a very long time to record and mix. Lots of very famous people sat in on the sessions and Jimi didn't stop until it was done his way. Some of those famous people were younger than Jimi and hadn't found fame yet but did later. It was not on his first album. It was on Jimi's third album and was released as a single only six months after the original release by Bob Dylan, the song's creator.

Jimi had the great fortune to have Eddy Cramer as his engineer who was instrumental in realizing Jimi's sound, including (the invention of?) phasing to create the sound Jimi heard in a dream where he was under water. It's so smooth but there's technique galore going on in this recording, and not just with the band. Almost any song from the Experience studio albums are just brilliantly done.

He had just got out of the army when he started this band. It had a great affection his ability and inspiration to write some of the songs he wrote.

That song is on his third album entitled "Electric Ladyland". He bought his own studio and named it "Electric Ladyland Studios" so he would have more creative freedom in recording.

Derek & Dominoes (Clapton&Duane Allman) recorded their version of Little Wing on the day they heard Hendrix died. It's the scariest Hendrix tribute there is😭

Loved your reaction. ♥ one of the best I've seen. Thank you Bob Dylan for making sure Hendrix sang this song.

A wah wah pedal is designed to mimic the sound of a trumpet, or trombone, being played with a mute. Go listen to some jazz big band music where the horn players use the rubber base from a toilet plunger as a mute. You'll notice the same wah sound as the player moves the mute closer to, and away from, the bell of the horn.
