I grew up in the Vietnam era. Initially, it was a dirty little war fought in some unknown country where no one could see. As time went by, the media got involved and moved in. Soon you could view the conflict in living colour as you ate your diner off of a TV tray in your living room. Monks burning in the streets, napalm rolling down and immolating anything in it's path, villagers annihilated by both sides, and the daily body counts. It didn't take long for the supposed heroism and glory to wear off as the public saw what wars are really all about. There is no glamour to be found, just young men trying to kill and maim one another after being sent by greedy old men looking to increase their influence and power. One of the saddest parts for me was to see how the young vets were treated when they arrived home. They were cursed, reviled by many, and sometimes spit on. It wasn't right nor fair. You see, those young men went to war because they believed in what their leaders were telling them and many had no choice because they were drafted and if they refused to go they were jailed. In any event, all were betrayed. Betrayed by their leaders and betrayed by their peers.............I don't condone any war and never will. They are pointless and could be avoided. As for those who were there and came home to more violence and hatred, you have my apologies. You didn't deserve that and it wasn't your fault so you should not have borne the blame...............

The Jimi Hendrix Experience: Given a choice between prison or joining the Army, he chose the latter and enlisted on May 31, 1961. After completing eight weeks of basic training at Fort Ord, California, he was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division and stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Jimi was a true patriot. He even went to France and was snubbed. So, I went back home. I never did sign up for the military. I was 17 years old when I went into the U.S. NAVY and I was sent to the first Aircraft Carrier the Coral Sea as a brown shirt plane captain on F-4J model from VF121 for two and half weeks of training and it was an experience I will never forget especially night operations out at sea where it is pitch black and only red lights mostly to see by and hot exhaust all around and not making a mistake of being in the wrong place at the wrong time meaning preventing from being sucked in a engine intake. Working 12 hour on and 12 hours off and the food wasn't that good in my opinion. 1972- 1978 I served. This video brings back those memories. I am now 65 years old and working on UH-60 M BLACKHAWK HELICOPTERS at the Sikorsky Aircraft factory 🏭 now for 42 years and soon I will be retiring. @Ahmet Kudret independence war was only made possible so congress could do a legal switch and imply a new law making anyone who breaks the law and has to spend time is thereby a servant for work aka a slave to the jail that they are sent to, the war was never about slaves is what about the north attempting to taxate tf out of the south like uk did with the colonies and the south was willing to go to war about taxes since their imports and exports got cut off when all the current leaders of the south agreed to stop paying taxes for congress and the north since it was going to turn them bankrupt faster than a war could, so technically no war in history has ever been worth it unless you wanna talk about a less world threatening war with anticlimactic yet very traumatizing experiences because of arguably one of the most horrific and long lasting events that created generations of psychologically shellshocked people with behavior issues due to past events which were never properly diagnosed bc the entirety of it wasn’t even considered a war despite some cities being forced into martial law, the congress let alone the government both saw it as inner city rebellion aka the civil rights war which is still debatably happening in current time just in a new form .

You'll never understand the hatred in their eyes, not just for the dictators soldiers, but for anyone on those zippo raids. Some orders are evil, but not everyone had a choice. I thought, I just saw him in class 6 months ago. There was no way they could train him up and have him prepared to have a chance to survive. I found out many years later he was in country 8 days walking point and a booby trap got him. Believe his squad made him the sacrificial lamb. He was a Marine. By then the prosecution of this war and the anti Americans here made everything FUBAR. Many of us wanted to do our duty as our predecessors had. Navy 1969 - 1973.

Your outstanding video clips are actually paying tribute to Navy & Marine Fleet Air off "Yankee Station" which was part of "The Tonkin Gulf Yacht Club." Only USAF I'm seeing is the flight of F-105 "Thuds" at 1:56. Not sure you realize how good this video is as you're showing all the different airframes the Fleet flew back then. Bravo Zulu with my compliments. Big shout out to USAF who did a lot of really outstanding work during Nam. One Team - One Fight

I like the aircraft carrier film. My uncle John was on the Forestal then. He survived the fire. I was just a kid. He's in his late 70s, and I am happy to have him around. He took me on base when I was five. I remember feeling so small around those big ships.

My cousin died in I believe 1970, Kim was a army medic trying to get to a wounded troop when hit, I believe that I became a Paramedic and still am at 60 because of the short but powerful time I knew him and ended up also with Airforce in a rescue sq and later in life became a corpsman with force recon. Never forget their sacrifice, memory and how years later it can influence others.

One stinking cruise and 2 years on the flightline and I have the sound of a high-pressure nitrogen bottle with a knocked off valve assembly in my left ear. Twenty-four hours a day seven days a week..... It's AAaaaafkn-mazing what a person can learn to live with. I have a lot more shit going on than the noise in my ear.

It's one big thing all the war movies get wrong. THE LOUD F'KN NOISES! Particularly an incredibly loud noise during a period of silence. This happened my 4th day at the FB. A Sergeant looked at me, smiled and said, "Boy, did you sh-t your pants"? I was shocked, checked, and said, "no"! The Sergeant laughed and said, "Well if you didn't now, you never will"! I found out he wasn't just joking. During some scary moments with a lot of shooting some guys, tough ones, did that or the other every time. One really tough squared away Sergeant always peed during a firefight. He'd just laugh later and say, "You can't help it"! Funny now but it shows what war puts your body through. I usually think of my time in country as long periods of boredom broken by really loud noises.
