@@gudgengrebe I am looking at a reproduction of the poster on my wall right now. 8:30 PM Friday AUG. 23rd, it reads. Flushing Meadows Park, Queens , New York. The Jimi Hendrix Experience, The Chambers Brothers, The Soft Machine. It was 1968 and I was 16 years old. I had seen Jimi play the previous March at Hunter College. By pure dumb luck I had ended up in the front row, right in front of The Man Himself. He blew my mind. He did most of the "Are You Experienced" album live with all the effects and sonic fireworks from the vinyl. I was 15 then. When I got to The Singer Bowl (left over from the 1964 Worlds Fair, and right across the street from Shea Stadium where the Beatles had performed a few years earlier) I knew what to expect. I had a cheap bleacher seat ticket, and as any self respecting 16 year old would, I sneaked into the ground seats in front of the stage. Half way through the Soft Machine's set I got kicked out, and had to retreat back to the bleachers. The Machine and The Chambers Brothers did great sets, and then we were told that there would be a special guest who wasn't listed. Janis Joplin with Big Brother and The Holding Company came out to riotous applause, and Janis showed out (her performance is also here on KZbin). The stage slowly revolved so that everyone in the stadium could see the bands. By the time The Experience came out, the cables had gotten jammed in the mechanism and the stage had stopped revolving. Luckily for me, My seat was facing the stage. It was an open stadium and I can still remember how the stars looked, and how good the air felt. Jimi was dressed in white, and you can hear for yourself how he sounded, even with the prehistoric recording equipment. I ended up screaming like a little girl at a Beatle show. I saw him once more on his birthday at Philharmonic Hall, after Carnegie Hall refused to let him play!. It was the first Rock show ever at Lincoln Center. I finally met my hero one Spring night at The Village Gate nightclub. I was only 16, but drinking age was 18 in those days and I had a moustache! He was sitting on the other side of the room with Buddy Miles and The Express, who I had just seen on American Bandstand that morning. I went over and spoke to them and Jimi. I told him how much I loved his music. He was very laid back! That next Monday at school I bragged all day, and asked people if they wanted to shake the hand that shook the hand of Jimi Hendrix! It seems like a million years ago, but he is still my hero, and I am glad that a whole new generation is as turned on by his music as I was so many years ago. Be Well, my friend, and Prosper!

Yes but sometimes when I’m the right frame of mind I can imagine I’m time travelling , which is almost what we ARE doing when we listen to a moment in time that has passed like this. We’re looking in on a time when Jimi and his band are still alive. Does that make sense? It’s like I’m able to go back in time and experience it in real time. When I am able to listen with that mindset I can overlook the quality of the sound and it becomes a live recording for me. He plays with such emotion! For me, his guitar playing far surpasses anyone who has come since. He seems to have been able to tap into something greater than technique.
@lo5man
@lo5man 11 ай бұрын
@@gudgengrebe Of course, totally agree with the time travel synopsis. As you mentioned "He seems to have been able to tap into something greater than technique." You hit the nail on the head sir. Just a thought, with the advent of technological wizardry and using virtual Avatars on stage, with ABBA Voyage and Elvis hologram to premier here in the UK. Imagine experiencing Mr Hendrix esquire brought back to life on stage, capturing the sound of 100 watt marshall's creating sonic tsunami! Now that would be an Experience. 😃

@@lo5man I’m glad you got what I was trying to say and yes, I was just thinking that in the future they will be able to recover/improve the sound, but your idea about recreating a full concert like they did with the ABBA thing: now that would be wonderful, especially with the sound of the Marshal amps in a cinema! The best we could do when we were young was turn out the lights and lie on the floor with the hi fi speakers on either side!

@@paulablissett4447 1ST of all Ms. Blissett, I wanna say, it's an HONOR! to correspond with U. A lady of your countenance that KNOWS!; not knew, THEE MAN!: JAMES MARSHALL HENDRIX. I always speak of jh in the NOW! not in the deceased. I read jimis journalists friend 📙 book, SHARON LAWRENCE, back in 2002 & Ms. Lawrence went to Mr. Hendrix's apartment in Greenwich Village in early October of 1970. I was thrilled that Mr. H. had gotten a home so close to where he worked. Within walking distance to his baby: ELECTRIC LADY STUDIOS. Ms. LAWRENCE confirmed just what u said. Mr Hendrix had quite a few homes. I wasn't aware of him having getting a home on the Pacific West Coast. Ms. Lawrence ran into Mr. Hendrix's manager, MJ, Michael Jeffrey's while there & Jeffrey's 💔 broke down SOBBING & 😭 CRYING in Ms. Lawarences' arms after what transpired on Friday September 18 1970. Freaked Ms. Lawrence out! Upon leaving Mr. H's apartment, Ms. Lawrence noticed something SHINY! in a corner. A REFRIGERATOR! He finally got it, she said. His own refrigerator, cause growing up in Seattle, food was scarce & Mr. H. told Ms. Lawrence that if he ever made it big as an artists, he would by himself his OWN FRIDGE! Ms. Blissett, please keep in touch. There aren't many people left around from Mr. H's inner. circle. Besides a coupla roadies, ERIC BARRETT & NEVILLE CHESTERS, & engineer EDDIE KRAMER, that's pretty much it. I knew Mr. Billy Cox's cousin, Robert back in 1980. I was 17 at the time. Didn't know Mr. H from BULLWINKLE & ROCKY! cartoons. Fast forward to 1986 when I heard the RAINBOW 🌈 BRIDEGE lp for the 1st time in my Aunts' home. I can respect your opinion because some people do prefer the studio creations in Hendrix loved the studio where he could paint his images. But it is very very rare to see someone perform and tap into some of the originality from a studio on a live stage setting that is why you have people like the Beatles the Stones The who Eric Clapton and so on and so on sitting in the first rose with their jaws dropped because not many people can we create these colors and sounds in a live performance. Oh yes today's world we hear a lot of things and man or men they are recreated on the stage. But to see a guy like that all those contemporaries and other musicians could not believe what they heard and seen please shook up the world like Muhammad Ali like Michael Jackson like babe Ruth like Henry Aaron and Eddie Van Halen John McLaughlin George Benson they all have a swash of paint that they display on the musical canvas. Again I respect your opinion but I'm just looking a little deeper.. PS THE GUY NEVER EVEN PEAKED. Well I understand if you're coming from a competition mindset I am privilege to say I saw Stevie Ray Vaughan two years before he passed. Hendricks stung me when I was around 13 years old around 71/72 I can't say that this guy is better than that guy there is something about Stevie Ray Vaughan that makes you shed tears of joy hey Dug Albert King and all the other others before them and he stated we owe a lot to Jimi Hendrix. Stevie Ray Vaughan is another guitar player who can stand next to Hendricks and create beautiful Rihanna imagination portraits of sound. I respect your opinion. But that's how I feel and even Hendrix stayed away from the competition questions. Did you hear what Hendrix had to say about Rory gallagher, Terry kath, let's not forget King crimson. Hendricks was heading in another direction up music and different musicians. that boy changed my call outlook on music. I'm just expressing some thoughts I look forward to your response take care of yourself can rock on and remain experienced. SINCERELY WALTER THE LEFT-HANDED BLOKE 😎.

Don't feel confused, you're just late to the Party. 😂 ✌🏼 Glad you've arrived!! Enjoy the GOAT 🎸🐐 P.S. SRV is pretty damn good too, just came later.. he emulates Jimi.👍🏼

@@olly8 Stevie had his own style, which nfluenced me 2. Those quick clean riffz he'd play, were sumthin else. I wuz dstressed 2 hear of his passing. People hear me & think Jimi, rite away. Like I say..... I think therez sum SRV, amongst a few othaz, n there, azz well.

@@Einnor084 We had tickets to see Eric Clapton the night after Stevie died. It was emotional when EC dedicated some songs to SRV. He & audience shed some tears 😢💔
