He was playing the sounds of “the rockets red glare” and “the bombs bursting in air” on the guitar! A true masterpiece of music!

Jimi produced one of the greatest pieces of art of the 20th century; up there with Picasso, Dali etc. He brilliantly expressed the great paradox that is America - beautiful on the surface yet distorted and corrupt underneath. He painted the pain and the horror that is America's compulsion to war. That performance will forever live in history.

Woodstock occurred during the height of the Vietnam War - the way he felt about it was echoed in his music. He was a genius master of the guitar. Chwck out the movie Wookstock, and All along the watchtower.

I mean now reall, you're spoiling me! Legend jimi to get the ageing heart going at this ungodly hour! This was a bit before my time but carried decades into music history, not even words to describe the magnificent performance. Sadly, jimi was yet another victim of that horrible "27 club" cant even imagine where he would have gone. Imo with the exception of slowhand he was the greatest rock guitar guy ever. Thank you as always for the video and thoughtful commentary, you do this KZbin thing right😊

There's an alternate recording of him playing at Woodstock, that shows his finger work on the guitar. This was a bad angle.

Shame you didn't pick a better release, where you can actually see what he's doing instead of the head shots
