Marty is up there with Chappelle and Norm Macdonald. The part about how he has a lot of racist friends but that's less important than the inconvenience of starting up a whole new poker game is improv satire, and there's a reason you don't hear people say "improv satire" very often. John's callback to "monkey" shortly after "I don't want to get anyone angry at me" was really well timed too.

If any of you had actually watched John Salley on anything else you’d know he’s a good natured guy. Always smiling and ready to laugh. He was playing along with Jiminy to make things awkward. I don't understand the hate here for John Salley. Maybe something in his life outside this interview (I don't know much about him) but I thought he was fine in this interview. Made for a funny back and forth.
@Elmnopen8 жыл бұрын
he indirectly threatened violence from his security if Blake did not retract some words he spoke. that's very simply animalistic, racist , oppressive
@bwc38218 жыл бұрын
Elmnopen Blake who? What are you referencing?
@liquidamerican85437 жыл бұрын
Shut the fuck up. No, he didn't. It's possible that maybe he took the name thing A LITTLE BIT seriously but he did not indirectly threaten violence in any serious way. The whole thing is a bit which he was obviously going along with until the very end. Ya know, there absolutely is a problem with people pushing an unnecessary racial agenda in this country and YOU ARE ONE THOSE PEOPLE. You WANT this to be racist so it can fit your agenda of purporting that any black person who mentions (or in this case, alludes to in a humorous manner) the topic of race is racist. By the way, who the fuck is Blake???
@jahnblahkmuhn16306 жыл бұрын
Elmnopen so you think he threatened a fictional character?...

"I don't understand the hate here for John Salley." He's black. Glad I could help. If you've heard John talk about the depth of his admiration for Larry Bird, e.g., you know that his silly shtick here -- exactly where silly shtick belongs -- flew right over some people's heads.

It's improvised and the reality is that the first improvisational idea the giant black guy has is to falsely claim a racial slur and threaten his host with the Nation of Islam which is a militant islamic group known for issuing fatwas. Marty called John, Tom... not A TOM... The threats and race baiting weren't subtle unless you're completely ignorant of reality.
