It's really funny to listen to these legends and how their comedy/mannerisms and even...jokes...have trickled down to Comedians today. I can hear a lot of Tom Segura, Chris D'Elia, Bert and even Rogan in there. Absolute pioneers.

I grew up listening to Steven Wright, laughing at times, till I cried. Listening to Mitch Hedburg, I sometimes cry until I can’t breathe. These guys are a danger to my health.

Steven wright is fantastic but I think it’s not about one joke with him, it’s about the trippy deadpan experience of mind expanding jokes that just keep coming. There’s a building momentum with Wright.

Good idea putting these together. We were just watching Mitch in the car, and my friend said "Check out Steven Wright, too". He had to repeat himself though. He was an AM radio announcer, his voice faded out under a bridge.

Both hilarious! My most memorable Steven Wright joke is when he's ordering at a fast food joint and says he'll "have a small Coke in a large cup, and just fill it up the rest of the way."

I remember seeing Steven Wright on the tv as a kid. The one joke I always remember is, "I went into the General Store. They wouldn't let me buy anything specific.". For some reason, I never heard of Mitch Hedberg, probably because he was doing the rounds in the late 90s and I wasn't following stand-up as much then. I only found him because he comes up when you search for Steven on KZbin. I think they're both great. Credit to Mitch for having to make sure he didn't use one of Steven's observations, of which there are hundreds.

These two are/were absolute artisans at this particular style, and what's great is that if you were to listen to the album of one, you do not more or less get the same experience as you would listening to the other. Hedberg's was far more fun, like something you could tell at a party to make quick friends, whereas Wright's style is far more cerebral and abstract. The biggest difference ultimately would be when they do self-effacing humor - Hedberg made himself out as an underdog during those times (like he was bombing at another show), whereas Wright made himself sound like an alien who attempted to interact with human beings slightly before it was ready.

Mitch Hedberg and Steven Wright were the first two standup comedians I identified with. Not just because of their styles and approaches to the one-liners and non-sequiturs, but because I thought they seemed awkward onstage. And with me, being socially awkward and sometimes shy, I related to them so much and still do. They're two of the best and still a couple of my favorite comedians.

So to sum it up: You used to be socially awkward. You still are, but you used to be too?
