I would like to add a trick that I have been using since my old friend who has passed away some years ago. Mr. Snyder taught me thirty some years ago you always slightly grease the bearings on the outside to make assembly easy and to seat correctly. Later when the bearing go bad, the disassembly will be so easy that you think you are a mechanical magician. Nice video Jim. Keep them coming too.

Excellent info on this procedure. Just found it as I was doing this repair on my Snapper. Wish I had seen it a couple of days sooner. I ran into some of the same issues and this should help others greatly. To note if anyone runs into this, the blade bar is threaded onto the spindle(standard, left = loose) and not pressed on as I thought. Thanks so much!!!

@jimjackson93816 ай бұрын
@@Greg-j5d I’ve had a few that were stuck so bad I had to cut them off. You can try heating it up good with a torch, but you want to use a big torch like an oxygen acetylene. You want to heat the bar up faster than the spindle shaft so the bar will expand, but not to shaft .

Another great and informative video! By the way, I've been wondering what those round nubs are for on the underside of the blade mounting bar. They look like they're there to mount something on. And on another note, I got both belts, engine drive and transmission belt for my new old Snapper 21" self propelled mower. I got them here locally for a little over $18.00. I got the engine belt on a couple days ago, sharpened the blade yesterday and mowed the front yard. It does a fine job! I will probably put the transmission belt on today. It's interesting that the drive setup with the drive disc and driven rubber disc is so much similar to the RERs....

The reason some units have two brakes the brake band is your actual break the shoe inside of the clutch disk assembly is actually a parking brake but then to save money on manufacturing they realize they could do away with the band break. Jim

I can't find where that lever is connected to anything but always bought the disk with the liner because that's what came out. Weird? I see the black rubber is splitting again and the white plastic one looks fine. Any thoughts?

Hi Jim. My snapper runs and cuts, but only seems to engage up to second gear under the deck. The shifter will move from reverse up to 5th gear, but it's really tough to do so. Because of this, a pin snapped where the shifter meets the body of the mower (which I temporarily got back together with a bolt and a lock nut). Any ideas on how I can get my mower to shift through all the gears and have an easier time moving the shifter? I sent you a more in depth email with pictures of the mower if that helps.
