I've known people that own their own trucks since back in the 80's, most OTR truck will go to a million miles (or more) without any problems and I know of a few local trucks that have done the same thing. From what I've heard, the emissions trucks can be a big pain in the butt and put a hurtin' on your wallet. The emission systems makes the engines work harder than a non-emission engine. Personally I would go with a glider for a used truck. If I was buying a new on it would be a coin toss and depending on the application the truck would be used for would make a big difference in which one to choose. Basically, you have weigh the pros and cons for what you're going to do with the truck before ya pull the trigger. Sounds like you have done all the math, you know what you need and that's what you buy.👍👍

the #1 decision you will make in trucking is the truck or trucks you buy. Personally we buy brand new with a 5 year warranty on engine-emissions-chassis depending on brand. warranties very. Application matters. Just looked a System's yard this evening and they had 30 to 40 new KW trucks just sitting there ready for drivers. Pretty hardcore.

What does the warranty cover you the time that your truck is in the shop and not making Revenue? Does your warranty cover the fixed expenses of amortizing insurance and IRP registration while your truck is in the shop? Does your warranty pay the driver while his truck is in the shop which is why I left my last job because I never got paid while the truck was always in the shop.

My advice to you on a day cab is to look at the idling hours more than the miles driven; you will likely be unpleasantly surprised. Those in the know are snatching pre-emissions trucks because they want to keep the wheels turning, and not sitting at a repair shop. It is not the engines that are the problems on new trucks ,it's the badly designed emissions systems installed on them. I've been saying it since the beginning that once electric/hybrid truck hit the road in large numbers, manufacturers will finally put some money and r&d into making a emissions system that functions properly.
