This song I feel like was made not only for the truck drivers but for the trucks themselves My great uncle was a truckie and operated out of Margaret river out here in WA. But he had to stop trucking 2 years prior to this song releasing due to a terminal illness... but despite his trucking days behind him and himself long gone I am proud to say that his first truck - a 1979 Kenworth K100 flatbed - which was his favourite lives on and will do so until all things come to an end This song I feel like is especially for people like him and the trucks the beasts that roar down the roads that truly are part of the 3 major things that keep Australia going - Trucks, ships and trains- Australia wouldn’t be the same or as lively without them

Well he's following the broken lines Living on borrowed time Motel rooms and broken hearts all left behind You swear he couldn't close his eyes As he shifts into overdrive He's been up and down this road so many times The man of his own And searching just keeps him proving That only the road Can tame the rebel in his soul It's the rhythm of the highway As he rolls on down And city lights as they fade from sight Drives the man behind the driving wheels Like a cowboy in a rodeo Riding hard but never letting go You'll be wand'ring through the twilight of his life Waylon Jennings on the radio Country music and engines roar Like a shooting star across a desert sky And he's got a home But it's out on the blue horizon Heaven only knows There's still a rebel in his soul It's the rhythm of the highway As he rolls on down And city lights as they fade from sight Drives the man behind the driving wheels And chasing southern lights In the distant sky And open plains with the mountains high Drives the man behind the driving wheels Well he's thought about settling down A little diner on the edge of town But in this world of push and shove He's still got freedom in his blood It's the rhythm of the highway

The lyrics, this is perhaps the greatest road song rock n roller that says a million things to millions of people, thanks again for the lyrics, a reminder when we all sing along , such a story too. Still am,azed at this mans quality, and to think he thought for so long in his life he was no good not worth it, a lesser person thank god he came through, because he is such a good person , he didn't see it in himself, only others, well you are Jim a good human , read your books, what an experience your life has been. They've always been underpaid, under appreciated, overworked, targeted by police and screwed over by Work Cover. There are some bad peas in the pod but most are real heroes, saving lives along the way like my husband did before his work injury which ironically was in the yard and not out on the road. I'm still fighting WC 15 months after he died which was 3 years after his injury. There are many of us who've lost our loves to the road and not only truckies.
