Yay week 3 Since you mentioned Jesus Christ it was Farnsey who played that role and killed it. So my picks for week 3 John Farnham Gesthemane (best Jesus ever) Jimmy Barnes Soothe Me with Sam Moore (released only a few weeks ago so Barnesy 65 at the time and Sam was 86 and still amazing) And some more recent very popular artists Guy Sebastian (original winner of Australian Idol back in 2003. He has gone on to become one of Australia's most prolific singer songwriters. He has also been a coach on both XFactor for a few years and The Voice since 2019 Song choice Battle Scars live from his home studio for Anzac day. Delta Goodrem. Song choice. Born to Try (Global Citizens Live) Started releasing music at 15, was also on tv show neighbours around the same time. At 18 she got cancer and went into remission after treatment then went become Australia's sweetheart of the music industry. Cranking out hit after hit from 2001 to 2021. She has also starred in TV and movie roles and has been a coach on The Voice since 2011 Tesky Brothers Song choice. Hold Me (Live at the Forum) They have been around since 2008 but only really hit the scene in 2018. I only discovered them this year and can't get enough of them. Blues Rock in the style of Mowtown greats Ottis Redding and Wilson Picket. Josh Tesky has a voice as smooth as Tennessee Whisky.

Great cover of a DP classic, really very good. Only the very brave would attempt to cover these DP classics because you are setting yourself up to be compared to some of the best ever. This really reminds me of just how Jon Lord completely redefined the Hammond and its role in heavy rock. All those organ solos at such amazing speed and complexity. He could match any guitar and that for me made Deep Purple the best out of the three founders of heavy rock. For me the others in the same zone but very different genre as Lord are Keith Emerson and Rick Wakeman. But even Lord started with Prog in the early DP days. RIP Jon Lord. Many thanks for putting this cover on your channel and your reaction.

Oh my! Totally unexpected to find this on the channel. It's one of my favourite covers/tribute ever, ever. Ever. The original is the original, and Purple is legendary, but this is, at the very least, on par with the original. This version was included in a Deep Purple tribute album named Re-Machined. There are covers by Metallica, Joe Satriani (with Chickenfoot), Iron Maiden and Glen Hughes. It's phenomenal. I actually discovered this a couple of years back, after discovering Black Country Communion, which was a project that joined Joe Bonamassa, Glen Hughes (ex-Purple), Jason Bonham (son of John Bonham) and Derek Sherinian (ex- Dream Theater). They released, If I recall, 3 albums. Old school cool Hard-Rock/Blues with a modern touch. Check them out, lads!

I've decided after doing a little digging into Cold Chisel week that I'm going to make that playlist include all of the "side stuff" from the members a la my Beatles playlist. They are all just too good at what they do to ignore the stuff they do outside of Chisel. Barnesy and Bonamassa are in great form here. As is the whole band really. To anyone who doesn't say there aren't amazing musicians putting out music in the 2000s, look harder. If Alex can stomach more Bonamassa, him and Beth Hart doing "I'd Rather go Blind" is beyond amazing. And live.

This was great, haven’t heard this version before! As the other comments have mentioned John Farnham performed the Aussie role of Jesus in JCS (and was fabulous!). JCS was actually how I first discovered Ian Gillan when I was still very young - I purchased a 2nd hand soundtrack of the English cast production (the 4 side vinyl version) and thought he had the most amazing voice. I absolutely loved that album and knew every note by heart, it had so much meaning as well as punching through with that amazing heavy groove, gentle moments and powerful realisations. It also gave me my lifelong love of that era’s sound. Much later on in my late teenage years I discovered Ian was in Deep Purple (I was always more into 60s/70s than my own contemporary 80s era) and then was amazed by so many epic vocals. Legend. Very excited for Prog Week and Bowie week! And 3rd Aussie week (hope marketing isn’t watching 🤐🤫) I’m finding it quite funny that these videos drop at the perfect time when I do my handicrafts - crocheting to heavy rock 😆 that’s how I roll these days 😂.

Just thinking back on who was in the earlier 1970s Aussie cast of JCS there were many famous names including Jon English as Judas and also Stevie Wright and Rory O’Donoghue. Russell Morris, Jon Stevens and Kate Ceberano pop up in the 1990s version alongside John Farnham. Amazing talent!

If you want to here Australia's current greatest voices right now look for Vanessa Amorosi doing "Natural Woman" also Guy Sebastian doing anything!!! Recommend "Believer" , "Before i go"' , "Standing with you" do his live versions they are better than studio. "TWO JAW DROPPING WORLD CLASS VOCALISTS".Thats my 52 year olds recommendations

This is from a Tribute album "Re-machined" A pretty good album for Deep Purple fans. And as far as I am aware Barnes never did JC Superstar. In Australia it was a guy Trevor White, with John English as Judas. Barnes would have only been 16 at the time. You can find the cast list on line if you are interested.

@@TheThamesmen honestly, when he said what it was about……..so many misunderstandings happen online because you can’t hear the voice or see body language I’ve had it happen to me (hard to believe, I know! 🙄) and I thought about the English sense of humor…the whole “taken the piss” thing…and most Americans don’t get it. Joe’s an American and took something Alex said, in a humorous, teasing way no doubt, much too seriously and got mad. Could it be that simple?

@@TheThamesmen Ok guys, have you really check this out yet? Beth and Joe together --or each on their own--will absolutely blow your minds.
