Missy Higgins is truly gifted, loved how excited Paul Kelly was watching her do her bit. One of my favourite songs

I think the flanging in this song is real, as in not an electronic device. The engineer would lightly touch the flange of the tape spool slightly slowing it, then letting it return to normal speed

@ I’m glad you also love it. I was a late discoverer of the song too, first heard it in 2000 and I was a kid. Fell in love with it and have never tired of it 😍

While this Paul Kelly version is nice enough, the version he did with the whole band was much better. The timing of his singing was perfection and his harmonica playing sublime. One of my favourite Kelly covers. You can find it on KZbin.

Very good. Impressive. And only 17 years old? The Sky is the limit for Grace. I've listened for many years to Stevie Ray Vaughan, and, in my own opinion, no one comes close to him. Hendrix, also, is in a league of his own. You've set the bar for this young lady, pretty darn high. I am only now becoming aware of her, but I'll keep her on my radar. Thank you for bringing her to our attention.

For your own viewing pleasure - check out an Australian movie called The Dish, set around Australia's involvement in the Apollo program and moon landing, starring Sam Neill. Apart from being a great movie, the soundtrack includes a lot of tracks that were big in the late 60s in Australia - including this one.

Hey lads, great to hear this coz I grew up hearing Frarnsie do it downunder. His version is pretty cool, of course. Also, I draw your attention to the current Cold Chisel tour. Man, I thought they'd come out on zimmer frames and such... old guys on their 50th anniversary tour and all, ... but they cooked. IF you get your hands on footage from this tour in a few months you will love it!!!

This recording of "When the war is over" is more than 20 years old, of a song that was written and first performed 20 years before that. I saw them play it again live 2 weeks ago, on their 50th anniversary tour, along with 30,000 other people. They are still just as phenomenally good now, as they were back then.

Love Doc Neeson (that VOICE!). I have my well worn, very cherished DVD of The Angels Live at Narara 1983. Besides their phenomenal performance you also have the option of listening to (Doc Neesons's) beautiful commentary of their experience. RIP Doc Neeson (Beautiful Man). Once experienced cannot be forgotten.

For more than 50 years this man has been a legend of our country-so you asked the question why is not considered a god-of the international scene-had he kept pushing he would have made it no doubt-but he considered the love and admiration of his fellow Australians-he understood Hayward make all the money and have everything he ever needed-it could not bear to be away from his wife and children-and so he made the decision to concentrate in Australia!. A guard and legend of this land he will forever be because of it.

Nah. John Farnham’s is better. His voice transcends and is more powerful. I think his backing band was better too. You will hear similar elements in both versions 3DN versus JF. I always was a big Harry Nilsson fan from 1971…but not a fan of this song. Go to Without You…you’ll be suitably knocked out.
