I wanted to share a more obscure Jimmy Buffett (yes, you pronounced it correctly!) song. Everyone seems to know his more upbeat, fun stuff, which is great, but he is a great songwriter and can tell a really great story. His band is also really first rate! Some of my favorites are "Death of an Unpopular Poet", "Tin Cup Chalice", "Come Monday", "Peanut Butter Conspiracy", "Pencil Thin Mustache", "West Nashville Grand Ballroom Gown", "A Pirate Looks At Forty", "Fruitcakes", "Barometer Soup", "Blue Heaven Rendezvous", "Six String Music", and "Barefoot Children". I'm glad I got to see him live, as it's a truly unique experience, but the amount of truly over the top heavy drinking kinda grossed me out. I can't drink due to an allergy to alcohol, so watching people wretch all over the lawn (and my feet, damnit!) sealed the deal for me. Take me to Dead show any day! LOL!

You really really should listen to his more upbeat stuff. I love the coral reefers playing the steel drums and stuff. Jimmy has 31 studio albums, "Off To See The Lizard" is a great album from 1989. Or his newest album "Bubbles Up" that was just released is really great. With all Jimmy's songs, lyrics are everything. Jimmy is our modern day Mark Twain.

I love that you noted the storytelling. That's my favorite thing about Jimmy. Take a listen to "Jamaica Mistaica", I would recommend a live version (there's just so much more life to his live versions). This is a true story about a day when Jamaican authorities tried to shoot Jimmy's sea plane down, thinking it was a drug run. The tale is humorous and entertaining. But the music...steel drums and in my opinion one of the most beautiful guitar solos ever. ❤️

A lesser know Jimmy Buffett but my favorite is They Don’t Dance Like Carmen Any More. My first concert was Jimmy Buffett at Bradley University in Peoria Illinois. He had a broken leg and sat with his guitar and let propped up on a chair. He also did a over of Hank Williams classic Hey Good Lookin with George Strait, Alan Jackson and other country artists. It won awards. Give it a listen.

I’m not sure of the exact numbers, but along with Depeche Mode and Diamond Rio (country band), I’ve seen Jimmy more times than I can remember. He does a fantastic cover and of “Southern Cross”. My favorite Buffett song is “Come Monday”. Jimmy and the Coral Reefer Band are a thing all themselves. “Cheeseburger in Paradise” “Volcano” “Fins” “Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes” “A Pirate Looks at 40” “School Boy Heart” That’s my son’s favorite. “Why Don’t We Get Drunk” And his most famous song: “Margaritaville” He has a restaurant chain. Jimmy is very audience participation. 🌴
