The "Solid Gold" 1984 Summer Special would not be complete without an appearance by Jimmy Buffett, with his whimsical Caribbean-style music that entertained the world since the 1970s. His easy, breezy tunes set many a summer scene. This particular sing, "Come Monday", is the only song that I am able to think of that puts a positive spin on Mondays. Throughout music, there are songs about Mondays that all have bad connotations. Many of those turned out to be popular songs that were depressing in tone. Not with "Come Monday". Even a reference to Labor Day and a reference to California as well. The song seemed timed to be on the Labor Day weekend, which we are for 2023, the symbolic, though not astronomic end of summer, and Jimmy Buffett made that a positive as well. Michael, was 1984 the only year that Jimmy Buffett had appeared on "Solid Gold"? Did he ever perform "Margaritaville" and/or "Cheeseburger In Paradise" on "Solid Gold"? Those were some of my personal favorites of his, including the songs you uploaded, "Brown Eyed Girl" and "Come Monday". I know that hos fans have been referred to as "parrotheads" for some time and I am not certain of the backstory, as there have been different theories over the years. Jimmy Buffett recently got a lot of radio airplay on a Los Angeles AM talk radio station, of all places on the radio, every Friday for their bumper music for their 3-hour weekday show. They called the weekly tribute to his music, "Jimmy Buffett Fridays" and just yesterday, Friday, September 1st, they went through a lot of his discology as usual. The relatively young hosts, age 43 and age 37, were such fans of his. They begin each of their programs with an instrumental version of "The Star-Spangled Banner", but on Fridays, begin their show with "The Star-Spangled Banner" as sung by Jimmy Buffett. Jimmy put his own spin on our national anthem. Jimmy Buffett was not just a singer and musician, but a great showman as well. The fun that you mentioned in the recording studio at A & M, with Jimmy Buffett and his song, "Come Monday", had to be way up in the ionosphere. Your arrangements on both of the Jimmy Buffett songs were right on the mark, they really brought out the best in those two songs for live television. The "Solid Gold" 2-hour summer specials were, like the annual 2-hour Christmas specials, and the 2-hour annual Countdown specials were bonus shows that added to the already spectacular "Solid Gold" series. As for Jimmy Buffett and "Solid Gold", a trip down musical and pop cultural memory lane that, for many, were better times. It was a time capsule of the 1980s. Through the wonders of the Michael Miller Time Machine, you provide blasts from the past and, in the case of the passing of musical artists, an automatic tribute to the individual who made their mark on music history and on "Solid Gold" history as well.

Thank you, sir, for all the good information you shared about Jimmy Buffett. To my recollection, we only had him on the show in 1984 and he only did the two songs I posted today, but I could be wrong since it was 4 decades ago when I was musical director. Anyway, I’m glad you enjoyed more musical merriment from the Michael Miller Time Machine!

@@bigeyezzzzzzz Thank you for what you had posted on Jimmy Buffett and the clearer audio upload. 1984 was indeed long ago, 39 years ago. It was 7 years past Jimmy Buffett having released "Margaritaville", that became his largest hit. That puts it all in perspective. Well, if you find more Jimmy Buffett appearances, maybe those will be able to be uploaded as well. In any case, the uploads that you placed were of very good quality and especially considering their age. I remember that it used to be said that videotapes, even if stored properly, would degrade over time. However, your video uploads from videotape have been clear and crisp and have not shown any wear at all. I know that you had cleaned and restored them and that is an often arduous process. Thank you so very much for the effort and providing the musical time capsule that is the Michael Miller Time Machine. You must have kept a large home video collection from the "Solid Gold" television series. Thank you for your wonderful KZbin channel.
