You're right, that is awesome. I wouldn't have even noticed it! I wish the base would be mixed in a little stronger so it's more distinct.

Thank you honey for reminding me, how long you can stare at someone and never see, really see.
Jimmy Eat World have always been pretty good at nailing the opening track on their album. and this is no exception. This song is amazing. So amazing its one of my favourite Jimmy Eat World songs. Its A bit of a shame there wasn't another 4 or 5 tracks on Damages as good as Appreciation.
@gabrielgpr078 жыл бұрын
I personally think most of the other songs were just as good as this one (so much emotion on Damage). But I agree they have always nailed the opening track, indeed.
@brandoncassidy71356 жыл бұрын
So true! The question is which opener is the best? For me it's Futures. But Big Casino is a close second.

I love that you can come back to Jim and Tom's songs throughout your life, and they'll mean something new. I needed to hear this song tonight. "Strange we come to find ourselves, not knowing we're lost...." Thank you guys. Nice to know someone else gets it.

Just to clarify for everybody, the verses are in 4/4, the choruses are 6/4, and the ending is in 3/4. There's no 6/8 on the song. I suppose you could call the choruses 3/4, but the syncopation doesn't work in 3/4, and it's not 6/8 because the quarter note beat is constant throughout. Sorry to go all music snob on everyone lol.
@brandoncassidy71359 жыл бұрын
After having thought about this some more, I suppose you could call the choruses 6/8 if you did the "eighth note=quarter note" thing. And the choruses do have that rollicking, beer in hand 6/8 feel to them
@brandoncassidy71359 жыл бұрын
Especially the ones with the sweet bass lines later in the song. Some of Rick's best shit.

really likin the time signature changing from 4/4 in the verses and 6/8 in the chorus. Just saw them at the Olympia Theatre and I don't mean to sound like a cliche but, they sound even better live =D

While I don't think anything can compare with the majesty of Futures and Clarity, this album is a pretty solid concept album and I like it better than their previous two records.

What a refreshing return to form after the utter awfulness that was Invented.
@samshorto54339 жыл бұрын
BlotRorschach I couldn't agree with this less, I thought Invented was an amazing album. The title track especially I thought was one of their best ever songs. It sends shivers up my spine every time I listen to it.
@brandoncassidy71359 жыл бұрын
I'm right in the middle of you two. Invented is nowhere near Futures or Chase This Light, but I wouldn't call it awfulness. You're right Sam about the title track, it's Adkins at his best with lyrical imagery. And coffee and cigarettes is a great anthem and I have a soft spot for Stop. (Just broke up with a girl when I heard it, gotta love Jimmy for those moments lol) But this album reminds of me of their best work Bleed American in its raw power and emotional intensity. Can't wait for the new record later this year!!

@samshorto54333 жыл бұрын
@@brandoncassidy7135 Actually I think you're right, I think the standout tracks are very good, but there is a little bit of mediocrity in some of the filler songs in a way that you didn't get with Futures or Chase This Light (which is by far and away my favourite album of theirs).
