When I was about 15 years old Jimmy Griffin bought my parents house in Memphis Tennessee. He gave us copies of most his records. What a great voice and he is surely missed.

If I could bring 3 people back to enjoy a full life I would pick Dan Fogleberg, Karen Carpenter and this great man Jimmy Griffin…..such a shame they never got to live a full rich life…..that is why at 70 years of age, I am content and satisfied to have been lucky to have lived through a wonderful era of music. Thank you to all of the wonderful artists who shared their talent with us.

I just love James Griffin's voice (on any song he sings) and his excellent songwriting skills.I keep returning to listen to him sing "Look What You've Done" with Bread. It is just fantastic, what with his smooth, sweet delivery. He had had a long solo career dating back to 1963, before Bread. However, there's no denying that David Gates was a superb songwriter in his own right (all 13 of Bread's songs that charted the Billboards Hot 100 list were written and/or sung by him) and he had the finest, most seductive, mellow voice that I have ever heard. In my humble opinion "I Would Give Everything" will live forever in the hearts and minds of those who hear it, whether or not they understand that it was written for his suddenly lost father or if they think that it's a love song. As much as I love James Griffin's music I would say that it is second only to David Gates. Just superb, especially his "For All We Know".

I feel the same, absolutely obsessed with Himmys voice but then again I was even more obsessed with Fogelberg and I think they sound similar.

You are of course, entitled to your opinion, but I'd question the airing of it unprompted on the comments of a video of the person you deem to be inferior. For what it's worth, I'd rank the pair of them equally both in terms of vocals and writing. There were numerous songs of JG's on Bread LPs which I could easily imagine being hits. Gates is a great talent no ifs or buts, but he should have had the humility to allow Jimmy Griffin to shine alongside him rather than an increasingly marginalised sidekick.

And in my own personal opinion,And the all --- gifted,the all --- talented and the all --- knowledgeable David Gates,Robb Royer and the late James Arthur Griffin called and also known as " Jimmy Griffin " as well as the late Mike Botts are the Best Bread line --- up or band mates or band members specially and particularly during the very early 1970's decade.And I also owned most of the Bread discography's Compact Discs or C.D. formats.And my most favorite Bread recorded album C.D. is their most famous,their most legendary and their most known Bread --- On The Waters album's whole,entire and all of the hit songs included in this particular Bread --- On The Waters recorded album that can always surpass,always beat and always eclipse many,many and many Beatles hit songs and " Beatles not famous tunes " located in all of the Beatles's massive discography or recorded albums.

I wouldn't say he was better than David Gates. David is a very talented singer and songwriter. But I too LOVED all of Jimmy's work, with and without Bread. Has anyone here ever found Jimmy's last album, Break and Run. It was supposed to be release by Lemon Records in Europe, but try as I might, I have never found it!!
@garryford12163 жыл бұрын
Robert, I also tried to find Break and Run but it was never released. Check out Wraysong Records they have 4 volumes of Jimmy Griffin archives. Some of the cuts were from the unreleased Break and Run. They are all outstanding cuts from Jimmy Griffins unreleased songs. If you do not own these BUY them now. You will love them.
