I remain impressed by Haslip's bass track on Bruce Hornsby's "Harbor Lights" track- especially the walkout.

I agree. Dane is better than Felix, but it's just not the same. I had a lesson with Jimmy a few years ago and he was awesome. As great a player he is, he is an even greater person.

..I had no idea this dude plays a righty turned lefty.. with the high strings at the top. I bet he shreds a mandolin. A Yellowjackets performance was airing on some TV channel like 6-8 years ago and this guy absolutely blew my mind with his chops.

I'm left handed and learned right handed bass, I wonder how different I would play if I had chosen to play left handed.

Perhaps you haven't heard Jeff Berlins playing from the eighties. His choral work was top notch. Check out his instructional video from the eighties. Think you will change your tune

I’m teaching myself the bass lefty upside down on a right bass as you have. Is it possible to slap and pluck or not because it’s upside down?

@@davidfabe8185 Man, have you ever heard of Fieldy of Korn? He had been playing bass upside down for a few years, before he had his signature K5 made by Ibanez.

You right handers don't have the first clue as to what Jimmy has managed to pull off. To begin with, stringed instruments were never meant for us left handers. As far as trying to compensate for the failure in intonation after flipping the strings over like Jimi Hendrix, that ain't a cake walk either, and much of what Hendrix did is self-taught feel of how much pressure or slight bending, to get the intonation right, as loud as it is. Jimmy Haslip has managed, some kinda way, to pick up the instrument you people use, and teach himself to play it that way without doing anything. I haven't even covered the irritating feel of those control knobs digging into your forearm constantly either. So, Jimmy has a left handed body done to remove that irritating problem, as well the cutaway issue, but it's still a bass you right handers use. EVERYTHING, changes. Whatever on Earth he does on the fret board, as well as his changing attack, hitting the strings, picking, or however he does it. AND the nuances involved to compensate. How do you possibly teach something like that?! Newsflash: right handers. You can't, and you won't.
