Here checking out players from before my time from a list of '20 greatest all time Brit footballers'. I'm a Rangers fan, but like to see good play skills from anyone. And this guy certainly had that. Watching this it's a shame Cruyff gets the credit for the turn, when Jimmy did it all before. Amazing pace and skills, especially when you consider those heavy medicine balls they used to play with back then.

You had three outstanding dribblers of the ball in the late 60's and early 70's; George Best, Jimmy Johnstone and Roger Magnusson ... and then you had Cruyff, Djajic and Piet Keizer ... I grew up loving the great dribblers of the ball ... as a swede Roger Magnusson is my all time favorite. He's an iconic player for the French club Olympique Marseille and he's the most mesmerizing dribbler of the ball I've ever seen live or tv ... Jimmy Johnstone is the true ADHD-dribberl with all his turns and twists ...

Had he been born Brazilian he would genuinely be regarded as one of the 10 greatest footballers of all time. But he was not, He was a Scotsman. Humble, unassuming and without ego. I've watched this man take people's souls. World class defenders. You could see it in them around the 60 minute mark. 'Enough. I've had enough Jinky. I give up'. They did not need to speak the words for you to hear it, you saw it with your own two eyes. A torturer of full backs like no other. He made the very, very best look stupid. As the game progressed they would look both tired and stupid. An artist, a mavericker though a demon. Relentless, persistent, continuous. Given the acclaim he deserves globally ? No. However, a fact remains a fact regardless of how few or many believe it. Jimmy "Jinky" Johnstone. One of the 10 greatest footballers to ever live.

What amazing balance he had with his ability to use both feet his quick changes of direction rendered him almost unplayable. It's quite mesmerising watching him weave his spells. Scotland's lost ability to produce excellent footballers may have reached the pinnacle in Johnstone, who, were he playing today, would certainly be regarded as possibly the best ever. As it is, his brilliance still remains confined for the most part to Scotland, to some extent the UK, but sadly lacking in the wider world. Archie Gemmil became a cult hero because of one televisedgame, just think of the impact wee Jimmy would have had!
