Mention the name Jimmy Johnstone to football fans from the 60s and 70s and an immediate image forms in their minds. They can picture the small red-haired figure darting here, twisting there, leaving in his wake a series of very bewildered defenders as he fully lived up to his nickname of "Jinky".
One of the supreme entertainers of the Scottish game. Jimmy was also a very strong and brave winger, who became the ultimate star in that team of stars. The Lisbon Lions: the first-ever British team to win the European Cup.
Now, in this video, he tells the story of his career, taking us from the playground of his primary school in Lanarkshire through the glory days of Celtic Park under the late, great, Jock Stein,

I remember an interview with Willie Henderson after Jimmy died. The reporter asked Willie if Jimmy would be able to play in today’s game, and cited Ronaldo who had just moved to Real Madrid for £70 million. Willies response was brilliant, he said “…we Jimmy could keep a beach ball of Ronaldo in a phone box…”. Utter class

Jimmy's story could easily be an oscar winning movie. There isn't a year goes by where I am not hearing new stories about how he was as a human being, from former players and students. The phrase "there's only one" doesn't fit every player, but it fits Jinky! There is and still is only one.

Saw him and that EC winning Celtic side at Easter Road when growing up a Hibs supporter. He was just magic wi the baw. The amount of times during a game that the other Celts just gave it to him was unreal. Without doubt a genius of a player and an infectiously likeable and humble human being.
