Watch Jimmy Page & Robert Plant rock out with ‘Blackdog’ at the 1995 American Music Awards. I've unearthed a gem from the archives: a stunning performance of ‘Blackdog’ by Jimmy Page & Robert Plant, filmed live in London and beamed to the world via satellite at the ABC American Music Awards on January 30, 1995. One half of Led Zeppelin, who had reunited for their ‘No Quarter’ tour, were joined by a killer post-punk band that included Porl Thompson, the former Cure guitarist who brought a dark and edgy vibe to the proceedings. The late Michael Lee, who drummed for The Cult and Echo & The Bunnymen, proved to be a worthy successor to John Bonham, pounding the skins with power and finesse. Since there is no official HD version of this performance available. I decided to digitize this footage and share it. This is one of those moments that make us wish we could travel back in time and witness it live. I'm sorry I missed this tour when it happened. What tours do you regret not having seen at the time? This is OK but I never liked Plant’s overly conscious move away from all things that made Zeppelin great. I saw them live and it was great to see the legends but it just made me long for 1969-1973 Zeppelin. And no way does a didgeridoo belong anywhere near this song! And Page’s tone is horrible here. I didn’t like Walking into Clarksdale either. They did a nice job at the O2 though.
