My name is Marty. I’m a 69-year old attorney and I live in Louisville Kentucky. I have been listening to jazz since I was in junior high school. I’m listening to Dizzy Gillespie at the 1957 Newport Jazz Festival as I type this note.

Rushing was a marvel. The greatest blues singer for my money.

++Nicolas Martin Certainly up there with the best, maybe the very best. Aye, he was a great singer, but sadly seems to be largely forgotten now. This brings back memories. I saw him in the UK in the very early 60's with the Basie band. The band was a bit pedestrian in the first half of the concert, but Rushing came on for the second half.He started swinging it straight away, and the band dug in and went with him for a fabulous second half.

Just discovered Jimmy Rushing after listening to a lot of H-Bomb Ferguson and Cleanhead Vinson. Jimmy has an incredible voice. Is there a full version of Rushing and Gillespie's band?
@ChampianFulton8 жыл бұрын
no, i don't think so. jimmy recorded a lot under his own name, and he made great records with the count basie big band.
