There is already a great doc on Kim on KZbin ! Its named « Duk Koo Kim : the price of greatness »
@John.Flower.Productions5 ай бұрын
@@sakutarousama290 Kim Duk-koo came to America with one intention; to prove himself worthy to his pregnant girlfriend's family, in order to be able to marry her and raise his son. It was all or nothing, which is why he came to live or die (kill or be killed). I had him winning three (3) of the first four (4) rounds on sheer determination/will, taking it to an opponent whom he had no business fighting.

Thanks for doing this video. I've been so curious about this guy over the years and there were so little info about him but whatever little info there was made me even more curious him. Before this video, I knew he was extremely gifted and was one of those boxers who squander his natural born talent. And oh yeah, he fought with his hands by his sides.....This was a short video but it did open up his story for me a little bit, Thanks......

This story shows that talent can only get you so far you also need discipline and hard work it's a common tale of wasted natural talent not just in boxing

Yes, I don't remember the first part of that conversation but I remember Tyson saying his name.

Great video Rich! , didn’t know much about Slattery before except that he was a great talent from the old days Slattery was 💯 “ reflex fighter” like Roy Jones. Those kind of guys are untouchable at their best . But, once they lose a little of that superhuman speed , they go downhill pretty quickly.. The boxing equivalent of a baseball pitcher with a 105 Mph fastball who can only throw so many before the arm burns out and he gets hit all over the place.
@RichtheFightHistorian4 ай бұрын
Thanks, Triple. Yes, good baseball analogy there.

It is amazing, how the L ight-Heavyweight division spawned a lot of good fighters...One gets the impression that other, well-known Heavyweights--some of them being of the Light-Heavyweight stature!--Ducked this guy...folks like Dempsey, Jack Johnson, etc, did not want a part of him!...It seems like, in those earlier days, fighters were somehow "allowed" to step up to higher weight limits, but the really great smaller boxers were clearly avoided during the 20s and 30s. It was a strange era in boxing.
