I saw him and his band in a small club in NYC in the late 80s and it was a revelation. Blew me away. I'll never forget it.

NICE❣️この音、出せる人は少ないjimmy Smith 〜!his sound is wonderful and cool❣️以前、ハモンドとLeslie setを音楽ルームに設置してました。今のハモンド奏者に、出ない音。その違い聞き分けます。

Jimmy was using just the first 3 drawbars though. Booker T was using the first 4 DB more often.

JIMMY SMITH THE GREATEST ORGANIST EVER!! BUT THAT GUITARIST AINT CHOPPED LIVER!!!
@20gilbert2011 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry--this guitar solo is very lacking! It's a shame to see the Master, Jimmy Smith saddled with a sideman who is on a lower level. At some points, the guitar solo is so bad it is embarrassing.
@calebsherman92559 жыл бұрын
Gil Mosko It's actually a pretty good jazz solo if you compare apples to apples, but he's an apple playing an oranges song, so yea it could be better for the song, but alone it has good coverage of key and rhythm changes.

Well, Gabe, you do have a point. My comment was from 2-years ago, and who knows? Listening to the solo again now, it isn't as bad as I thought then. The guy is just a bit sloppy at times. And Mr. Sherman is right, too--it's just not an R & B solo, but a jazz one, so there is a bit of friction there. Sorry if I offended you. And thanks for being civil, and not stooping to troll level, which is how most people respond to something they don't like.

Cool, all in good time and freewheeling discussion sir. I thought the guy sounded good to ok, but not great, and while he might not be a Jimmy Smith peer yet, you have to consider jazz masters will often take on a promising newbie for training. That's all. Cheers and good music!
