Jimmy saw me play many years ago in Atlantic City and gave me words of encouragement. He was an excellent drummer and an absolute crazy man on and off stage. Gotta love his showmanship!! Wish there were more videos of Jimmy available.

knew the guys saw them many times at Harrahs in Lake Tahoe..Me and my band worked at Harvey's wagon Wheel right across the street..We got off work and headed to Harrahs to see our favorite show band great musicians and did dixieland at times with an unbelievable drive..Sam had the biggest sound on Tenor I ever heard..My sax player Bobby Pollihan was darn close to Sam and they were good buddies....The band would buy my band drinks every night..My first few years on the road we di alot of their music as I also played trumpet and my piano player could also play a mean trombone..Ralph Winn was his name..No one played a shuffle better than Jimmy Vincent...no body..The main characters have left us but what a memory...

Thanks for the upload Slick . " Sing, sing, sing ", Has been my favorite piece since 1970. The first time I heard Benny and Gene's Carnegie Hall recording. , I was hooked. I always loved Louis's stuff, when ever I could find it. Not often enough, ever ! ANY WAY. I just, tonight, found out that LOUIS WROTE it ! ! ! And the reason for this is ; wait for it ; a Japanese High School Marching Band ! ! ! Their theme song is " Sing '". Absolutely mind blowing. They are that amazing. Again , thanks for the info. This old man is happier now that my three favorites are involved with " Sing ". And now the young Japanese musicians will keep it alive .

I give Louis Prima a lot of kudos.. This was a guy that had the ability to reinvent himself and adapt as the music scene changed... My parents were big fans, and saw him perform many times throughout his career... He was known as one of the hardest working entertainers in the business.. It didn't matter if Louis was performing for 20 people or a packed venue... You always got a high energy show, and his trademark interaction with his audience... 100% every night, and often 3 shows on a given day.. One of the best Front Mans of his day..

Yes, Jimmy Vincent was so underrated. Rarely do you hear his name come up in discussions of the greatest drummers. But, he's not the only one in this band who's underrated. Louis Prima could hold his own on trumpet against the best of any era. The same is true for Sam Butera, but on saxophone. I get such a kick when I focus on the band members while Louis is jumping all over the stage singing his heart out to perfection, never missing a note. All the while, Keely Smith staring at them with a blank look on her face as if she's numb by how many times she's seen these guys act like little boys. They are hysterical, as is Louis both reacting to them and instigating them. Their's is a well-rehearsed insanity that created the best music ever and an awful lot of laughs. I'm glad someone had the presence of mind to save videotapes of their performances during an era when videotapes were erased and reused. What a shame for all the taped performances, not just Louis Prima's, that weren't preserved. Let's revel in what we have and make sure it's never lost.

I could watch this over and over again. There were so many talented musicians in the Witnesses, it's a shame how little information there is out there. Thanks so much for posting. And JoJo, I remember the JV site when it was active. Glad you're keeping his memory alive.

Fantastic drummer! I've never heard him before, thanks for sharing! I'll have to look him up. As for the kit, that's a Rogers, through and through. You can actually see the swiv-o-matic cymbal tilter on the crash to his right is loose at the end of the video clip, teetering back and forth. Swiv-O-Matic tom holder, Rogers bread and butter lugs throughout. Beautiful kit... wish I had it.

I'm listening to a mono Prima LP right now called Rock and Roll, which was a 1957 reissue that kicks off with a studio version of "Sing, Sing, Sing" that's instrumental and begins with Prima introducing the drummer, who then dominates the track. Just posted it for sale on Amazon.

We’re not eating our hearts out, we venerate Jimmy as one of the first drummers to go from Swing to what would eventually become Rock and Roll.
