Jo Jones, a magician on drums, in Caravan

Jo Jones is one of the greatest drummer in the history of Jazz. Most inventive, he frequently improvises the most unpredictable and bold breaks with an impressive rythmic energy. This example of his drum solo shows his amazing and unique variety.
The extraordinary solo of Jo Jones, a magician on drums, ends in a blaze of spectacular glory the film "l'Aventure du Jazz." This film will be showed again in France in 2012 by its director Louis Panassié to commemorate the centenary of Hugues Panassié's birth in 1912 and also the foundation of the "Hot Club de France " 80 years ago with the collaboration of Charles Delaunay and Pierre Nourry.
A showing is already expected in December 2012 in Paris by the current Hot Club president François Desbrosses. More showings are being organized in several french towns.
Soon you will see "l'Aventure du Jazz" in Lattes (near Montpellier ) on Friday, March 9 in the Jacques Coeur theater.

I have a similar story. I had a teacher back in high-school that found out I was a big fan of older music. He kept a giant book of Bob Dylan lyrics on his desk and always urged me to listen. I argued that Dylan killed folk and the Beatles killed jazz so I wasn't interested. Now as an adult I have become a HUGE Bob Dylan fan.

@@ssdirk yws there is a perfect drumming. When you playing isn't interfered by your mind but flows directly from your soul and at the samw time your in the flow of it and you feel it and ylu know it. That's perfect drumming. It applies to any music instrument: guitar, piano whatsoever. When it flows naturally out of your soul and it moves you to express it, what then comes out is perfect even if its technically not perfect but perfect in its expression. I wish that any devoted musician once experiences this because there's no better feeling when you feel one and united with your instrument. Papa Joe surely is in the flow here. His facial expression speaks books about it. Outstanding drummer. In the league of the bests of the best.

Jo was THE archetype for modern big band drumming. As part of Basie's first rhythm section, they redefined swing and made an entire nation get up and dance. Buddy Rich always cited him as a main influence and referred to him as the slickest drummer who ever lived. Wish we had more footage of the drumset's founding fathers..

Magic obviously too it's outrageous advantage Phil Jackson loves to talk about in greatest conversation because kobe playing to his credit and genius developed his shot earlier , even with hand checking and era of 7 footers you couldn't stop from getting to the hoop and finishing. Michael a 6-6 guy who can pick up any hall of Fame point guard his era full court defensively was silly. Steph in another way absolutely silly how soft his touch and mechanics are to allow such range. undeniably greatest shooter of all time,Larry in big moments, Reggie too, ray Allen poetry in motion, glen rice what form I think Dale Ellis was best pure mechanics until Steph. I'm very impressed how you can hear all the notes he plays at every nuance at every dynamic level. This proves you don't necessarily need 1 mic/drum. Even with very minimal miking & specific miking positions that you can still get a clean & clear sound as if the drumkit had 1 mic/drum provided you have the right mics.
