The WONDERFUL Jim was not only a FANTASTIC singer, AND STAR! He was a GREAT radio presenter, but fired due to his age! He used to get around 8 to 9 MILLION LISTENERS EACH SHOW!!!!
@notused.2 жыл бұрын
And he was still in his prime because he lived a further 14 years after they fired him.

@@notused. Thanks for replying to me. As a proffessional entertainer, I recorded over 8 albums, and 3 double albums. When I went onto radio , a guy in the Midlands, managed bands, got my show on so many other radio stations. We had massive stars doing "Phone Ins" I had started as "THE PIRATE RADIO SHOW" Laser 558, Caroline, and Radio London, with hundreds of origional jingles, and I was told that I got, on the computed screen, that I had over 15 million worldwide. If you would like, free of charge, give me a contact address, and I will some to you. I am listening to Jim now, thanks to you. NIGHT NIGHT.

As a break from today's dystopian present I've whisked myself back to being a teen. The Cold War back then, the Falklands war and the political landscape seemed so mundane now! My parents were alive and life was just about what I would do at the weekend. It is quite interesting though to listen out for clues in the news about what was brewing for us in the future...

Today people complain that Radio Two is just Radio One presenters and that the old station has gone forever. My late grandmother missed the end of the Light Programme in the same way, when Radio Two was in its so called heyday. Don't forget, Jimmy Young, along with Pete Murry, Terry Wogan, Ed Stewart, Tony Brandon were all on Radio One in its first years and switched to Radio Two. The truth is that the current crop of Radio Two presenters just remind us that we have got older!
@stepheng87792 ай бұрын
Don't think the most complaints are about that. It's about so called 'personalities' being classed as broadcasters, they are not. There's no issue moving from radio 1 to 2 if you're good enough in the first place, they are not. Shouting excitedly, quoting social media does not make successful radio, listening figures bare this out.
@barrypoupard7009 Жыл бұрын
It's only now I understand that in the 1980s Radio 2 had presenters who were masters of the medium live. At one stage the morning line up alone at one point was Ray Moore, Ken Bruce, Jimmy Young. And later in the schedule there was John Dunne who to this day I don't think has ever been surpassed in the Drivetime slot, tho Simon Mayo came close.

Im so glad I found that theme tune. Thank you so much. This reminds me very much of my grandma. She always had radio 2 on in the kitchen. She loved the jimmy young program and I loved it cause I did. So when this particular episode was broadcast I was 7, due to turn 8 in May that year. This would have been February half term so I wonder if we were listening to it together that day?

@@ajs41 me too. My grandma had radio 2 on in the car or the kitchen so I got to listen to it loads. I listen to radio to myself when I am working from home and I’ve got to say that it has gone downhill so much since these good old days. As soon as Ken Bruce leaves radio two, and if Gary Davies is next to be kicked out then that’s me and radio two finished. Bring back the good old days.
