@@StarkRaven59 mate you two cant seem to understand that the V6's can be screamers at 15K rpm, but the turbos and hybrid systems reduce the sound, and the teams never use that 15K rpm rev limiter as the power of the engine is between 11-13K RPM depending on the manufacturer. a V5/I5 with the same RPM would sound just as "rumbly" and low-pitch as these current engines. they just need more RPM and less MGU-H and turbos.

@@emmanouilk9991 the FIA mandate that the engines rev no more than 15k RPM. I believe that this RPM cap is also due to be reduced in the comig season too. The current engines can, likely, quite easily, rev to 18k RPM or more if they were to remove the limitations put in place by the FIA. In fact, Danny Ric's old Renault accidentally rev'd beyond the 15k limit for a fraction of a second in his final season with them a few years back for which he received a reprimand and grid penalty following one of his best qualifying achievements with the team. Simply put, it is not the case that these engines are running out of revs, moreover, it's that they are artificially limited to that level of RPM by 'the man'

That 787B was vastly underpowered. Mazda's goal was never to win Le Mans, and it was quite literally on the same performance levels as Group C2 cars. The 787B was just a marketing tool. And when all the top dogs such as Mercedes, Jaguars, and Porsche began to broke down the Mazda still went on. And you can guarantee they told the drivers to drive as cautiously as possible when they realized they could win. The best Le Mans engine is probably the Flat 6 turbos of the 956 and 962 since they could produce a ton of power whilst being reliable. So I doubt a 1000 horsepower probably 10k+ rpm rotary engine would survive very long.

13:25 That's all of motorsport! The same reason F1 isn't as much fun to watch as it used to be is the same reason a series like NASCAR is garbage. We don't see the same trials and tribulations and just plain wild happenings because of these changing regulatory ideologies. I would have loved NASCAR in the 1950s, watching the manufacturers wage their technological war: slant vs. pent. vs. hemi. designs, experimenting with aero (Superbird/Daytona needs a bigger wang) and the like. Or in the '60s, watching -Chevy's- Chaparral's skunkworks build the most outrageous racing machines the world has ever seen. Or- my god- the '80s, watching the birth of the Group B monsters, watching the first AWD Skylines' utter domination of the JTCC and damned-near every other series they entered. They must have been heady days... Post Script: Hover well, marshal.

It's pretty fun to see this engine in action. Rotary engines are a concept with many flaws, but there is also liquid piston rotary engine which may be actually useful. Can't wait to see it being used irl

Interesting video from Jimmer. The main reason Formula One cars don’t have Rotary engines is their absurdly heavy fuel consumption. You can add to that their pollution from burnt oil. Racing rotary motorcycles like the Norton used to trail a blue haze behind them, worse even than the average two stroke. Back in the day, the patents surrounding the Wankel engine were pretty all-inclusive and it took a hefty fee to buy membership in the club. This benefitted no one but the Wankel family. I’m amazed Mazda persevered as long as they did. Lot of power for the weight though.

Remember wanting a Mazda RX-8 for a long time. Problem is that they're the biggest fuel guzzlers on the planet for a car with such a small engine. Was slightly pissed off to go past one of the houses I grew up in a few years ago to find an RX-8 parked on the drive.

I'm sure Rob will pop in and correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the "rotaries don't have torque" thing comes from the fact that most people are familiar with the 2 rotors from Mazda, but the 3 and 4 rotors seem to produce a ton of torque. Also, the displacement on those V12s was crazy small, so they were always known for very low torque as well.
@_gaszy_8925
@_gaszy_8925 3 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure it's also because when most people thing torque they think lower rpm, where as rotaries are only top end torque
@griffinfaulkner3514
@griffinfaulkner3514 3 жыл бұрын
NA rotaries really don't produce that much torque. Turbo rotaries, on the other hand, can build massive amounts of boost very low in the rev range, and as such can produce so much torque that it threatens to damage the eccentric shaft.

The rotary engine would be more compact but probably quite a bit heavier: As far as I know, all rotary engines produced by Mazda themselves use cast iron side housings. Aluminium ones do exist but they're not made by Mazda.

There's no reason you couldnt make the housing out of whatever. The problem is the apex seals.
@ManWithBeard1990
@ManWithBeard1990 3 жыл бұрын
@@ineednochannelyoutube5384 That's true. And yes the apex seals do eventually wear out, and occasionally they break prematurely too. Apparently though, the root cause of that isn't the seals themselves. If you check Rob Dahm's channel, he has a video on how and why rotary engines break, and how to make them last.

F1 should allow multiple engine config as long as there's a displacement, power, and weight limit. they can keep the mandatory turbo hybrid stuff to please those save the environtment people, but just let manufacturer to compete with different kind of engine :D

I don't mind these kinds of videos but honestly, Assetto Corsa has such a rich modding scene (even just based around 90s jdm cars, mountain roads, expressways, time attack courses, road rally stuff, even complete islands like Union Island...) that I think you could milk a lot more content off it than you do Like, you mentioned in your beamng video that everything has kinda been seen and done with most current racing titles but I don't really think that that's true for your Assetto Corsa experience. I mean, if you got your CSP up to date you have the most amazing rain in a video game, you can even get out of your car... It's kind of crazy what AC has become over the years.

So I actually tried this a while ago. I dropped a 26b in a 1991 Jordan F1 car. I upped the power to around 1k I think, and the rev limit to around 12.5K. I ended up having to make my own tires in order to handle the power because the tires would spin in every gear. Edit: I looked it up before I made my engine swap and the 26b is actually heavier. It's actually6 double the weight at 400kg vs 200 for the V12.

The only reason there have been no rotary engines in F1 is the engine specifications have been too restrictive. I was told it is a bit too difficult to calculate the displacement so it easier to stipulate reciprocating engines. It is a same because if the amount of work that had been poured into reciprocating engines had been out into rotary they would be better.
