The INCREDIBLE Onewheel/EUC group ride!

I came into Seattle looking to do a small group ride. More people than expected showed up. This group ride had a little bit of everything. Cops on Segways. Beautiful views. Flying sparks. An electric unicycle fire. Special thanks to Joon ( • EUC | Onewheel | Jimmy... ) and the Seattle folks for coming out and allowing me and my kids to ride.
I know everyone will be asking what caused the EUC to catch fire like that. I do not know. Please note that modifying the electrical system on your EUC will void your warranty from Ewheels.

Tough to watch a kid (especially your own) or anyone on the ground moaning in shock and pain like that, but also an important eye-opening and alarming reminder to always ride safe. You could've easily cut that out of the video, but i'm glad you included that to show the reality of riding E-rides/PEV (OW, EUCs, etc). Also very happy to see her get back up and ride through!

Was a great ride!! Wish I brought my CnR setup lol. I was just out for a smol ride by myself when I ran into a couple other outlaws and they told me what was going down I had to go! Just saw the vid. You picked a great day to ride. My city is the prettiest when the sun is out. I thought there might be a large one wheel/euc community here. Great ride through a great city. If you are ever in San Francisco over a Saturday you should check out the BAESK8 rides. I just started riding with that group about 5 weeks ago and it is a 25 mile ride throughout a lot of San Francisco. Unfortunately due to the increasing spread of COVID-19 our rides are on hiatus until things settle down a bit more with infection rates. Until then I practice on my MTen3. It hurt a little inside to see an MTen3 on fire.

He said it in the video, it was a "MODDED" wheel. These wheels don't just catch fire but if you start messing with the batteries now you might just have problems coming your way?

Jimmy could have done a much better job explaining: someone messed with that EUC and modified it's batteries. That is why it caught on fire. Modern EUC and OneWheels are very safe and this will not happen unless you start taking it apart and trying to make changes when you're not qualified.

So for the record: this was an euc modded to have power from a backpack wired straight in to the controller to keep the wheel rolling further. It worked flawlessly for months. Onewheels do this on a very regular basis without issue. The problem came when he crashed earlier on in the ride and damaged the cable where it went through the shell. This eventually became a dead short and he didn’t notice until much too late to do anything to stop the fire. Normal unmodified wheels from any of the major manufacturers have almost no risk of this happening. None of the other eucs on this ride had been modified in this way.

I know of 2 EUC fires. Both were modded. So it doesn't happen often. I think this thumbnail looked better than any of the fire scenes.

with battery fires you pretty much have to wait for all of the cells to burn first. if you don't each cell will start burning once you've 'put the fire out' and re start the fire.

Are the electric unicycles as hard as normal unicycles to ride? The electric unicycles seem much faster than my 20” unicycle and seem like much less effort to ride, so I’ve thought about getting an EUC on multiple occasions.

It's North of los Angeles California about 4 hrs near the coast going to Big Sur, CA and San Jose CA, and Monterey, CA, maybe 3 hrs away from Santa Cruz, CA where the Onewheel was invented. And as it turns out, a lot of college students have Onewheels in the city of San Luis Obispo itself because it is a college town, and we also have a university called California Polytechnic State University.
