Excellent news about the HUGE lathe. Hope we get to see some of the restoration on that. A few years back I was trying to rescue a lathe that was on a mine museum scrap heap. By the time they decided who had the authority to sell it and yes they'd sell it to me, 3 years had passed and it was a solid lump of rust, a truck had backed into it and cracked the bed, and much of it had gone missing. Heartbreaking as it was in pretty good condition when I first saw it.

Why I'm a fan of composting toilets and grey water systems, but like you said it was built 100 years ago. Clay pipe was cheaper than cast iron to make. Love the old lathe, look forward to seeing it run. Cool running into other graphic artists. Cats chase mice, I don't think it's even for food, but more instinct. Thanks for posting Jimmy.

It's awesome to hear you're so close. I've got the bug for creating and have no experience but I've been inspired by your countless videos to get into metal, leather and woodworking, as well as doing negative molds for metal casting. I just want to create and your channel is such a cathartic outlet for that. Keep doing great work, learning, perfecting and finding inspiration--it spreads. Much love Jimmy!

At 2:20 I totally felt your pain. Clay pipes and tar rope seals when they wanted to keep them from leaking and my house was built in the late 50's around 58 I believe. My place is on a man made plateau, to level things out for the hill we sit on. The plumbing under that plateau is going to be a pain to replace if we ever get to that point. But the part that goes out to the septic system we replaced with all new 4" PVC sewer pipe. That was a fun adventure. We also had to have the tank cleaned because a tree had cracked the lid and allowed dirt to fill the tank, the major problem. Minor problem was cracked pipe that had collapsed.

Awesome lathe - on units that big it's possible to bend the bed if you pick it up using a forklift under the bed - best bet is running a chain through the tail end legs and around the headstock housing. I'm sure you know all this but I thought I'd mention it. Thanks for the updates - I'm really glad you started doing the vlog!

Yeah. I caught that Make Technology one about two weeks ago. I reported it to KZbin and the next day it was marked as a private channel. There were people actually defending the channel saying it was a legit DiResta parnter. Shit pissed me off.

why no look at it as free advertising for Jimmy?
@sportflyer8 жыл бұрын
Really? Jimmy makes (a tiny bit of) money each time we view his videos. That's what pays him and how he can stay in the workshop. If other people publish his video, they're literally stealing his money. Did you not know that?

Sportflying they are also spreading his name making him more famous so he can make more money in the future

Rob Simpson No, they are not. If it is someone's first time viewing his videos on THEIR channel they will go back to THEIR channel in order to watch the videos instead of Jimmy's. You must not be a creative person because if you were you would know what they are doing is wrong.

My septic tank guy told me to check the end of the pipe there at the tank first. He said that is the place where the roots like to gather. And he's been right a couple of times. Very good possibility that where that chisel broke is where the original tool steel was forge welded on.
