Fireball tool did a large saw and modernized it and I truly enjoyed that as well! Sampson boat co refreshed a huge ship saw to cut timbers for tally ho and it was not a restorationg but it was the most amazing woodwork done ive ever seen with an old saw!!

Until he destroyed the 112 year old, original and unique windlass that belonged to Tally Ho. When he could not find the way to disassemble it he used more and more and more force until it broke, a little more care in investigating how it came apart would have saved it. As my dad would say, like a bull at a gate.

If you look through all of the programmable parameters for the VFD you will find one called "carrier frequency" (or something similar). That will send a secondary signal to the motor to create a tone that will offset that high pitched sound that the VFD creates in the motor. This sound is because VFDs don't actually create a true AC wave. It's technically a high frequency stepped DC. If you were to look at it on an O-scope you would see dozens of very short bursts of DC that change by just a few millivolts from one pulse to the next.

A technique reminder .... keep the upper blade guide support as close to the work piece as possible to prevent stress cracking the blade from excessive twisting and side load. Much safer also. It is why it is adjustable up and down. A plus is better tracking when re-sawing. Great looking ol' band saw Jimmy, congratulations !

Nice old saw! Don't quote me, but many VFD drives can operate on single phase input. The horsepower capacity is typically less when operating on single phase, but it might be fine once you factor in efficiency losses from your phase converter. In any case it's great to have variable speed. Easier than turing down the water flow in an old waterwheel powered woodshop!

Keith does amazing work...cane mills to capstains. Can't forget Clark, what a craftsman as well. I wish I could afford Tom's stuff, but it is WAY outside my budget. I obtained a Norton Tri-Stone a few years ago and wanted to replace the badging like Keith did. YIKES, I didn't pay that much for the Tri-Stone with 3 new stones in it. BTW: That tri-stone was pulled from Willow Run Plant (B-24 Bombers were made there) by the owners grandmother (a Rosie the Riveter) when WWII Ended. She stayed on during decommissioning and they essentially said "Take what you want".

In '73 I went to work for the Chicago Park District as a journeyman painter. All of the various trades for the South Side R&C Shop (Repair and Construction) were located in a large facility at 58th St. and Cottage Grove, adjacent to the University of Chicago. I remember walking through what was then the Carpenter's Shop and being amazed at all of the absolutely huge, industrial grade tools and equipment. I'm guessing that most of the machinery in that shop was around circa 1950, which was a few generations later than that beautiful band saw of yours. But those beasts still had that Old School vibe about them, much like your bandsaw, and seeing this brings back memories.
