The no baiting an hasn't changed a thing from what I saw in the woods.

It’s because of the no baiting laws there’s so many deer in the city’s I have never seen so few deer in the woods then in the past few years I hunt a small property and without baiting I don’t see any deer within bow or shotgun range When you count on the meat to put in your freezer that hurts Sales were up because people need to feed their family , maybe you didn’t notice the unemployment rate? I don’t agree with a 1 buck rule. I do think the fill a doe tag before you get a buck tag being a good rule like in some other states

Jimmy, I really wish you would have pressed the issue of hunter (dis)satisfaction with him a little more. We will speak ad nauseam about baiting, CWD, APR's, OBT's, check-ins, and on and on - but really fail to address appropriately why hunter numbers are down. Rather than create an environment where deer hunting in MI is satisfactory through quality, the DNR pushes the idea that satisfaction is linked to ample opportunity, lengthened seasons, a larger range of available weaponry, and an abundance of tags. ALL of these measures to supplement tag sales in the state have only further diminished quality, satisfactory deer hunting.

Good points. Good luck getting a response, from the DNR or MUCC.

👍💯❤️🇺🇸 Deer check in station in Alcona county said hunter numbers were down, less deer checked. Covid was probably some of that, people afraid to leave home. Sad.

After the 2020 deer season Michigan will see a drastic reduction in liscense sales. You don't need an education to assume that
@lungbustercrnvr13843 жыл бұрын
Well I ALMOST made it through all his ( BS) interview til he started OUTRIGHT LIEING when you hit him with the baiting questions. This guy needs to be UN-ASSED from his position. We as Sportsman need to have WAY more input and CONTROL of our Deer Herd!

1) They want to keep "that momentum going" (more licenses sold) so they're going to have _mandatory_ reporting for deer hunters in 2022. It will be a crime to not report your deer hunt. If you forget, or can't get to a computer, or (far more likely) can't decipher the reporting form and process, you can be fined and have your hunting rights revoked. I am all for a hunter's report system, a _voluntary_ system. 2)19:14 "If you're asking me, Is (youth and disabled) putting bait out an increased risk? The answer is, Yes". No, he didn't ask you that. He asked, "Why is there exceptions to that baiting rule?" After a full minute of blah, blah, blah, blah, he finally tells the truth. It was for politics. So much for Michigan's law that says wildlife management decisions will be based on science. This one is based on political science, as usual. This guy has a long and successful career ahead of him.

Take 1 make 1 program similar to what's in place in South Carolina at the moment would be very beneficial in recruiting new hunters in Michigan. Like everything nowadays it is just a theory.

The down side of the deer survey is when you try to do it twice and it doesn't load. My two cents, 2020 deer season sucked! Hunted more than ever but saw only 2 does in 15 days. My take is more inexperienced hunters created too much pressure while acorns everywhere encouraged deer to stay in heavy cover.

First thing they can do to up more numbers is do away with all this youth special hunts let the children go out with Dad learn how to hunt before they carry a gun no special treatment like we used to I got more excited about hunting when I was going out for years before I was allowed to carry a gun it's better than bending over backwards and giving them special treatment in the old timers will get back in the hunting if we ain't got all these other seasons going on running regular hunting for everybody else

I've hunted for 22yrs. I've never been able to bate in the county I hunt. I've got 20+ deer in that time! I be leave it takes more hunting skill to find deer that way!!!! Hunt over bate piles don't take much skill!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hunt in northeast montcalm and northwest gratiot. Never seen any proof of cwd in deer we've had a point restriction for about 10 years now with about 7 surrounding neighbors. Way before the dnr implemented one. Always shot mature healthy deer. Would like to see point restrictions state wide. Tried to get the dnr to bring up the size limit on trout but they wouldn't still don't know why. Who's gonna eat an 8" brookie.
@ryanhasse65073 жыл бұрын
If u do a Google search on drn stated hunting numbers. michigan is one of the highest states in tags sold. But we come short on deer harvest in other states witch tells me off the bat we have less deer. People get discouraged over not seeing deer due to deer numbers and its now secret our deer are harder to hunt due to the hunting pressure. If our deer numbers where higher and our bucks made it past 1 to 2 years old I think baiting would be less of a topic. We could compete with other state with bigger bucks If we get some bucks to the next age class. People in Apr counties love the system. We would gain more nonresident instrest if bigger bucks trend up. This would be more income for the drn. I guess I'm not sure why there is such a push for so many hunters only thing I see buy that is greed.

CWD test $100 a head. Ya I can see why you can’t afford it in the future. License sails will go back down eventually. And you will lose money.

One thing they can do to bring back the hunters is let us bait its amazing that they dont see that yet i know many people my self that have stopped hunting just because of this reason

Jimmy what Michigan going to do when hr5717 will be put to law by our Feheral Goverment .Which was in the 1.9 trillion covid 19 bill.In that bill it state no one under 21years of age can have a gun .And everyone must have a federal licences to to own a gun .I contacted my rep Mr Meijer and never received a coment back .This will really put on negitive

I got the impression that the DNR is a bunch of guys who can't agree on anything. Almost everything he was asked, the DNR guy said 'yea, we've been talking about that'. The calling in you deer kill seems like such a no-brainer and yet they can't agree on whether or not to adopt it. It's how many, if not most states know what their deer herds are, why the hesitation? In Illinois if you shoot a deer, you have 24 hours to call it in and get a number that you have to write on your tag where there's a place for it. They keep making new rules hoping they'll work

The DNR made a law about baiting deer saying you can't bait anymore. And deer tag sales went down. Ted Nugent told you about that and you didn't believe him.
