I ended up working for a product manufacturer near my college, in the marketing department where I do a lot of 3d rendering for the graphic designers. I also get to work on developing CGI type images. I have designed a couple of projects in my first six months but have been really enjoying rendering beautiful images! I make around 17 an hour

Informative and great video! I'm an industrial student here in the Philippines, I'm planning to go the states in L.A after 2 years working here in my country as a designer. I want to pursue my dream as a Toy Designer or possibly product design in the states, can you give me an advice so I can work towards that goal? So far I had experience working with resin, rubber molding, fiberglass, plaster, yellow cast molding and etc. I'm actually decent at sketching, good at prototyping like using xintra/sintra boards and wood but I'm kinda lacking at 3d program modeling like 3ds max and cad. I experienced package designing from sketch up in a corporate supermarket and retail company like innovating floor stand designs in supermarkets haha. I'm graduating already, I have that designer's mind haha I always judge ergonomics forms of such products, I really like to innovate them as I always try to sketch in my sketchpad. I know I'm still lacking a lot, but I just want to improve my skills as a designer and watching your vids are a great help. An advice will really help me. Thank you!

Here in Portugal you'd be happy if they paid you 650-700 euros (800-860 USD) a month on your first job as an industrial designer and as you progress in your carreer don't expect more than 1500 euros a month.

OMG...So the salary is actually lower than in China, Here in China, if you got enough ability then they would pay you 6000 RMB (roughly 780 euros) a month.

I'm wondering if the B.F.A really worth the extra 2 yrs? I was in the interior design bfa program, but my friend, who started one yr before me, told me not worth it, and I heard about it didn't make a different in job position or salary. Love your channel! I'd love to get into industrial design, but I just graduated with bachelor's in IT. I was too scared to pursue ID because I thought I wouldn't be good enough, wouldn't get a lucrative job out of college, and my local university (Uni of Houston) isn't known for ID. Is it too late for me? Do I need to go back to college?

ID is awesome. If you honestly really want to do it, you dont need to go to college. But that means do you own education on the side. Go on behance and study the projects. Observe every little detail of the product, presentation, ideas, and what exactly to show. Of cores Watch my videos. And go ahead and being working on the side projects. Its not going to be easy but if its really what you want to do, it'll all be fun. Try to incorporate your IT knowledge to make you stand out. Good luck man, i'm here to help if you need.

Charandeep Singh tell them that industrial engineers basically do the same thing as industrial designers just more technical things. Industrial designers still make a lot of money, plus it’s your life. So if you want to do something go and do it, don’t regret a decision just because your parents didn’t like it

My daughter just graduated from HS. She's headed off to Western Washington University. She's thinking of applying to the Industrial Design program in the spring. We're giving her a new laptop for a graduation gift. It'd be nice to get something that could work for Industrial Design if she ends up doing that. Do you have a recommendation? Something with the right graphics, storage, speed, processor?

Hi Catherine. Congraz to you and your daughter. I would stick to a windows machine over mac since some industrial design programs run only on windows(soildworks). If she insists on getting a mac, look up how to "bootcamp" your mac which will allow you to install windows on your mac. As for a windows laptop, I recommend looking at the Razer Blade Laptops. They're fast, built well, and are cool!

What courses from high school do you really need to be strong in in order to enter into your profession. Math, physics, calculus, science...?

At a fundamental level, math, physics, and engineering are fairly easy to learn. Mainly based on observation, repeating formulas, and memorization. Begin creative, artistic, understanding what "looks cool", human behavior, problem solving and self teaching are much more difficult to teach and put into practice. Anything that relates to those skill traits will help you however most of them you generally learn on your own. Best thing to do: Seek, observe, and learn from those that are doing what you want to do.

Start practicing right away. They teach you how to do perspective & how to apply it correctly but everything else related to sketching is all up to you. Industrial design in college is pretty fast paced & the first few classes are sketching & rendering based. My mistake was not practicing sketching enough when I was in the industrial design program so I got constantly criticized by my program director for drawing badly &/or not enough. Also my program director was teaching most of the classes because where I went there weren't many industrial designers. There were only a few adjunct professors & there were probably only about 90 people total in the entire program so there were usually only around average 12 people or less in my classes. So it was tough competition. Also it was easy for the teachers to focus on each person because there were so few of us, so they knit picked every little thing.

I have been an artist my entire life and I am a very good illustrator... I'm a professional Industrial Designer and I never draw anything. Quick thumbnail sketch maybe? Then we get straight into CAD. Make sure you understand design the best you possibly can and you'll be great!

Work on sketching first & try to perfect perspective drawing & also rendering. Then make a portfolio to get into a design college. You will learn more in depth things after you get into the industrial design program so don't worry about anything beyond sketching & rendering just yet.

Hey Rakshit! IDK how its like in India, but what I would do is go online and apply to as many openings as possible. Talk to anyone i know that is in the industry. Then I would go to any place i'm interested and talk to the people there. It really isn't rocket science. The hardest part is really trying to think of all possible leads that will get your foot in. By the end of it all, you may not get exactly what you're looking for, but i'm sure you'll stumble on something that will make you happy. Let me know how it goes man.
