Met him when when I worked at the airport. He was standing in the middle of a really long line at Arrivals, never having asked for anyone to escort him or bring him to the front. So sweet and down-to-earth. I jokingly told him he needed to develop his diva skills! (And, yes, he should have been nominated for an Oscar for Rocketman!)

@Farmgirl I agree on your Oscar nomination point.. it'd been at least a decade since I'd watched a film that caused me to weep. I've adored this actor ever since watching Kingsman (I & II). And his role in Rocketman solidly placed him in my personal top 100 actors. And _WTF!?!_ my husband & I hadn't heard about Ray Liotta passing.. I've admired his body of work for thirty years.

@@St.Linguini_of_Pesto I escorted Joaquin Phoenix to the plane one night. Bit of chatting and I mentioned that I was so disappointed Taron had not been nominated. I pointed out that I suspected it was because Rami Malek had won the year before for playing Freddy Mercury and the Academy didn't want to nominate two similar roles (i.e. rock star bios) two years in a row. And I added that Rami had done a wonderful impression. But Taron had done a brilliant acting job - different! He really deserved the nod. Joaquin said he'd spoken to Taron about it recently and energetically agreed with me which was very gracious since he was nominated (and won) shortly after that! I was very impressd with Joaquin's generosity and kindness - there I was praising someone I felt gave an Oscar-worthy performance to someone who was in the running!

I’m not sure I would have been able to be as level headed as you were around Taron. I would have 100% tripped over my own feet. He seems like a very down to earth and kind guy, besides being easy on the eyes 😉

NERDY VENT: Standard American dialects don't shift through vowels as much as others, and we go full-on into vowels. "Cat" has the same sound technically, but the a is softer in more British dialects. It's easier to pick up that difference from the English POV than the American being a "brighter" sound the difference stands out easier. He also makes it seem like dialects are just about changing an individual words pronunciation, but there's placements, melodies, and rhythms to round out an accent. Standard American doesn't really have much specific nuance to it, being more based on the individual and their environment (I have like no melody when I don't have energy, but am very melodic with energy+excitement) A few of our words' pronunciations have also changed throughout the 20th century, as reading turned to listening.

Wales is on the island of Britain, and they're more truly "British" than the English/Anglo Saxons. Edit: I guess what I meant to say was; "one can NOT be "Welsh" WITHOUT being "British", yet one CAN be "British" WITHOUT being "Welsh"... Are people from Northern Ireland "British"? No. Are people from Anglesey "British"? Most thoroughly. Is Ireland a "British Ilse"? NO. Is Skye a British Ilse? Yes? Is Man a British Ilse?
