McCartney was one of the greatest singers in the rock/pop era ever. One reason why was because of his versatility. He could shred with the best of them: Wilson Pickett, Robert Plant. And then turn around & croon a love song like he was Art Garfunkel or Carl Wilson or Andy Williams.

@Wayne Pitty Exactly! Before Mama Cass covered John's song she did a whole intro about her "ex boyfriend" John! kzbin.info/www/bejne/qpeYk6WCr5pknas and routinely called out a name in the bridge. An actual name, not an endearment like "honey" or "baby" or "child". Everyone knows Paul's song was written to John, who was supposed to join him in that Louisiana concert, but NEVER CALLED HIM BACK. Plus, what would be the point of him singing 'I call your name', and then in THE moment of angst yelling out "child" instead of THE NAME! Do they really think he was calling "child" every night since then? LOL.

Well, the thing with Oh! Darling is that they hadn’t been singing live for 3 years and their voices were out of practice. John struggled during the recording of Come Together for the same reason. That’s why it took a week for Paul to be happy with his vocal on that song. Got to remember Wings had been on tour for over a year when this was recorded. His voice was more ‘match fit’ as it were.

I've heard a few Wings covers and I've never heard a guitarist sound as good as Jimmy on these songs or could even match him. I'm not a guitarist but to me he sounds amazing. On just about every song (including this one) he can almost "make it talk". Was he really that good? Or is it a combination of technique, the guitar, sound effects, etc? Again, I don't play so I don't know but the cover guitarists could never make them sound like this. Just really curious from a non player......
@austinfrazier73255 жыл бұрын
Follow up question.........as a non guitarist during this tour how good was Jimmy? Is this what a world class guitar player sounds like? I'm guessing yes as he sounds as good or better than any lead guitarist I've ever heard and I've been listing to rock for 30 years.

Nobody can or ever touch McCulloch. I encourage you to go watch him play Penicillin Blues with Stone the Crows. He was about 19 at the time. He had a gift. His solo Niagra is just of another world. ❤
@rrdream24004 жыл бұрын
I think it's mostly technique. He's playing a Gibson SG into a Marshall which has been done thousands of times by other players, somehow this kid got this certain snarl out of it that I don't hear other players get. It's also his choice of notes, for such a young player he had a lot of discipline to be able to hold back and not step on the singer or play a million notes.
