Thanks!! It works again! I have two of these ratchet socket wrench handle sets, for whatever reason. BOTH had failed to work, only one had I opened, so it couldn't be only me breaking them. This procedure, along with my own brass-brush cleaning of the pieces together with the technique shown (see the magic at 2:25) have made BOTH work completely fine again. I used SuperLube Syncrolon synthetic multipurpose grease (some corrosion prevention included). The toughest part was not knowing how to get the spring back into the right place between the various pieces. This video showed how to get them in the right places, and they worked the first time I put the whole deal back together. I used Threadlocker BLUE for the screw. Maybe unnecessary, but makes it all great! Now I'm very happy!

It worked! My spring came off and just had to set it back in place. I appreciate your patience in showing us how it’s done. Subbed! 👍

After watching a different ratchet fix vid , I put it on the back burner. Couple hours later stumbled on your vid. Ran down to the basement ,and boom , had it working in a meter of seconds , Thanks

Great! Rebuilt mine taking it apart and reassembling. Spring must have dislodged. Works as new.

This video is excellent. Noone tells you how to install that spring properly. I almost threw out my craftsman torque wrench. Following your instructions fixed it. There was nothing wrong other than that spring popping out because the knob loosened.

I have a craftsman torque wrench, that takes this rebuild kit. , I ended up putting the big piece in( there is no this side u p on the torque wrench) , than c- clamping it to the bench . It went together first go after that.. Question, data sheet says to use 30w oil, and not grease, do you have an opinion on that (I used grease)?

I found it a lot easier to put the top on and then spring and paw. Then the actual key part of the ratchet. Basically backward

Thank you so much! I was in the middle of installing my water pump and the little screw had backed out on my torque wrench and the ratchet head came apart. Couldn't figure out how to put it back together for the life of me. Now I can finish up the job and the first thing I'm gonna do is get new torque wrenches that aren't Craftsman pieces of junk

Three things: I would have placed the grease on the large gear and pawl (top, bottom and the teeth) BEFORE I placed them in the cavity. I'm not sure you got any grease on the teeth before you closed it back up. I would also use a brass brush rather than the stiffer steel wire brush to clean up the top, bottom and interior of grease and metal particles. The steel wire brush tends to scratch up the chrome. The stiff wire bristles always manage to scratch/puncture your fingers as well; who needs that? Glad to see you using grease rather than oil for lubrication. The oil tends to not do as good a job and it leaks out over time. The grease will also quiet the gears some.

+Johnny Fan They are available at your local Sears store, many times free of charge. Just take your ratchet in and ask for a kit and tell them you wish to rebuild it yourself.
