I lost my eldest son and grandson. I then lost my dad. Recently I lost my husband. I feel so sad and alone. Then I came upon this song. I was just 14, not a prayer I could do it. But someone at my school did, and from then on we heard it every school dance and we made the DJ play it over and over again. Your music is a part of my DNA and epigenetic memory forever. You made a beautiful creation I've heard in my mind for decades since. Sincerely, Thank you! I was around 14 or 15 when this came out. I wasn’t out to myself or anyone, but I was bullied nonstop at school and abused at home. I knew I had to run away, but back then in the 1980’s things were so different & I didn’t know of any resources or places to help (especially if you were Black like me). I identified with the song and original video so much - of being assaulted and then blamed for it, of being given a few quid instead of a hug. It’s almost 30 years since I finally ran away & I’m out as bi and nonbinary now, but this song will always resonate with my life. Thank you, Jimmy for this tune.

Przeglądając KZbin przypomniałam sobie tę piosenkę, miałam 20 lat jak była jej premiera. Wtedy mieszkałam w Polsce a teraz w Niemczech. To wykonanie z Berlina jest świetne, jak wtedy w 84 roku. Pozdrawiam wszystkich po 50-ce, tych przed też.

When an artist spills his heart in one song and it becomes an instant classic. Still sounds just like when it all began. Bravo!

Dieses Lied ist so traurig und schön, dass es mich zurück versetzt in eine Zeit, in der ich jung, traurig und abseits der zeitgenössischen Musik unterwegs war. Danke Jimmy!!
