I think the reason, the primary reason, that for gaming and tech stuff that the CPM is so low by comparison to lifestyle people is because of a couple factors, but the main of which likely being that Adblock is MUCH more prevalent among gaming and tech people than people who watch daily vlogs and etc.

As the other guy pointed out, tech people watch reviews of tech stuff, so we (yeah, I am on of them) are less likely to click on an ad. The lifestyle people are more likely to click, because they are watching someone have the "perfect" life or sth (I don't watch them, so I might be wrong, but just my 2 cents), and so when a "perfect" life guy promotes something, they will most likely click the ad or even buy it to feel more like the guy they are watching. It is like those 'get rich scams', people buy those books, because they want to be like that.

Guys this is long okay. The reason I didn’t split this up into paragraphs is so that you can highlight everything and use your device to dictate it! Sorry but I think that this is worth a quick listen!! 😀👍 Gillian Perkins (a person who Jimmy mentioned,) says that she doesn’t want to put mid-roll ads in her videos because she says that she doesn’t want to sacrifice her regular viewers for monetised viewers, if that makes sense. What she means is that she thinks that if there are mid-roll ads (which you can choose to or choose not to have if your video is over ten minutes long, I think,) she thinks people are more likely to click off her video (she says that she sometimes does this herself) and watch ‘one of those shiny videos on the sidebar.’ She doesn’t want people to click off her videos, because: A) The longer people watch her videos after a click, the more likely KZbin is to recommend it to others. B) She wants her videos to reach the widest possible audience, to help people who watch them. (Which is nice) She has all other ads turned on, but has said that her CPM could *double* if she turned on mid-roll ads. I don’t think that I would do this personally but even so I can still see why she does this.

It also deals with the types of advertisers, the competition resulting from industry changes (usually advertisement focuses) and the total value of the product being sold or the ROI (return on investment) resulting from potential and residual (bad term sometimes) purchasers. If you're trying to sell a rocket ship, and can do so with ease, you'd more than likely have a huge amount of revenue, but if you're selling something like a video game, and only get < 1,000 viewers a CPM with $90.00 wouldn't really make sense unless you're doing simulator videos with simulator rigs worth $900,000 per product ... but then again you have to make people enjoy the channel and continue watching enough to be interested in finishing the advertisements. BTW brightcove was a competitor against youtube.com meaning that youtube is still trying to hold on to their platform focus in hopes that people will use online video viewing the correct way at some point ... the servers kinda need the help considering no one knows how much gigawatts are needed to compute a proper video competition metrics.
@kohfu17243 жыл бұрын
Another thing that wasnt pointed out but is really really important is the watch time. If you get a lot of views but they only watch for 2-3 minutes on a 5-10 minute video it will hurt your revenue per 1000 quite a bit because 1) they will most likely only watch 1 off the ads in the video, 2) It tells the KZbin Algorithm that you don't have an interesting or engaging channel, more so just click bait titles. About the 11 minutes in we can see that MattCS has 3 million views and 215k watch hours but still isnt making much money compared to others. The women that comes after him as about have the views(1.6million) but has 133k watch hours... not to mention gaming content in itself makes less money on ads and more money on sponsors, and are more likely to have viewers that use ad block.

@Lrodpotato4 жыл бұрын
I mean tbh no one should expect a video that took maybe a couple hours to make with little to no editing of someone siting on their ass with their friends playing a popular game to make money. Of course their gonna take the ad revenue. Because without their game, they wouldn't make videos in the first place nor would majority of their viewers watch in first place. Its like reaction channels. You're taking someone else's work and using it to attract ppl to watch you. Ppl will watch at first for the show or anime or movie that your watching but if you arent interesting or entertaining forget it they won't stick around. Any popular reaction channel eventually starts selling either merchandise with their logo or image or has a sponsorhsip or patreon because their content while entertaining to some does not sell anything. The primary way to make money on KZbin is to sell something. This guy reviews tech/gadgets, makes finance vids, things that help to sell either a product or an idea like how much can I expect to make if i create a channel?? Which can possible convince someone start one up as well.
@koketsok15134 жыл бұрын
@@Lrodpotato I am not gonna argue that gaming channels have a lower skill tree to make content,but I have to disagree with the argument its on the same level as reaction and that because they are using popular games they dont deserve to be properly monetized.Most reaction channels literally do below bare minimum as they are passive they just blink.Whereas gaming channels do offer something such as broad appeal as many popular channels play games that inform customers on what they can expect experience fromt eh game to see if they may wish to purchase said game(like the LOU2 sitation),Many game companies feature prominanat gaming creators in their marketing as said creators have more broader reach(twitch streams like NINJA,TIFU and DR DISREPECT),We also cannot disregard equipment cost for the viewer as some people may not have the funds to purchase expensive gaming rigs and watching someone play that game may be as close as they may get ,walkthoughs are also a genre that help players who are stuck troubleshoot their way out of a frustrating situation(silent hill,hello neighbour etc).I am not saying/arguing that gaming channels dont have it easier time starting and making content what I am saying is if it gets views and the viewer got value from the content as companies would not spending millions of dollars on exclusive contracts,esports tournaments,gamer sponsorships etc if their was not money to be made from gaming content creators. its simple if the consumer gets value from gaming channels their should be proper monetary compensation,as many companies are in an arms race for gaming content(twich and know youtube gaming), as it is easy for anyone to 8 year old to just hit record,but to get a following/make it a career one needs to be better than just a"record me yelling and shooting"gaming channel. I have no dog in this fight,but their is alot of nuance that is often missed when people see quick views.
@Lrodpotato4 жыл бұрын
@@koketsok1513 Dont worry. I think you misunderstood me. I merely meant its similar in terms that theyre using someone else's material as the baseline of their content. Nothing else. Altho I personally never watched a gaming channel for a game that I hadn't already purchased myself. However I have watched Gaming Channel's other content for *them* specifically not because I had any desire or interest to purchase the game they were playing. I simply found them entertaining. But thats just me. And I think our definitions of gaming channel differs. To me a gaming channel is a channel that plays games primarily to market themselves. Like H20 Delirious or Vanoss. Not game reviews or 100% completion game channels or channels that give info in game content you might've missed, etc. I consider those types of channels to be more specific in terms of their content which takes alot more work.

@@Lrodpotato Ok,I understand where you coming from.The problem is the baseline,every content needs a baseline of familiarity in order to be easily recognized eg makeup channels have cosmetics and anime review channels have well anime movies/episodes car channels have cars,parts etc.I can understand the frustration of reaction channels as they had no transformative value and provided us no additional information.Gaming channels may be passive ,but unlike reaction channels the experience does differ even when many gameing channels play similar games and the person says nothing the viewer can get a good idea if the game is for them/if they want to keep watching and no one looses as if that person does not buy the game its not like the company lost any money(unlike reaction channels were using other peoples content actually subtracts value from its creator).And aside from reviews,just playing a game is enough.As I said earlier companies want gaming content as it provides additonal publicity ,that is why many studios have implemented the "photo mode" feature it enable gamers to take pics of in game events and in tern provides developers with "free"(I say free but in all honesty you are paying to show their work).Yes the basline to enter gaming is easy,but to grow and maintaining a gaming channel is hard,trends come and trends go, it becomes easy to see who is here to play(insert new game)and have their 2 months of fame and those who offer something,that is why I said if their is a viewrship that means people see value,companies see value and possible sponships see value ,as the game is the baseline but to give it value the creator needs to be better than just a record monkey and when they are,and when they have built something they have every right to fare compensation,as in a industry where anyone can do it not everyone can maintain a following and to those who can, give them their rewards just like any other creator.

@Rachel Ellis is this a troll account? A lesson I really try hard for the internet, (and is the reason I left Twitter), is to treat people I interact with on the the internet the same was as I would in real life. So I’m happy to challenge what I perceive to be negative behaviour but I’m not going to be really abusive or threatening because that’s not what I would do if I met you in person. I’ve found that my interactions online are now far more positive and I honestly think if we all at least tried to do that, the internet would be a nicer place. You really don’t have to believe in Disney to make the world around you a little better and you certainly don’t need to stamp all over someone’s wishes for others to enjoy success. I’m sure that’s not something you would do in real life and I encourage you to take those values and apply them online.
