Just a suggestion from my side As I did all these experiments: Always make a bed on a wooden frame then only put bedding & all....if you put like this without leveling the bed you will not get a comfortable sleep & you may injure your spine badly.

It gives me an idea. You showed a very casual arrangement in which a person can have a nap but not really a sleep. The gap between the mattress and the wall can be done away by modifying the mattress. Just extension of two inches of spaces in both the side will meant a big thing for sleeping. This will need a modification specially for the purpose. Children can peacefully sleep the whole way while adults drives the whole night in a shift. Luggage can go at the top of the vehicle.
