They knew what they were doing when they made Blaziken. Relatively balanced stats with good attack and special attack. A whole bunch of fire moves, Bulk Up, Sky Uppercut, Focus Energy, Rock Slide, Slash, Body Slam, Swords Dance, Thunder Punch, Brick Break, Earthquake, and Aerial Ace. And it only got better as time went on.
@jimothycool Жыл бұрын
It's a great Pokemon design all around.
@ultimaterecoil1136 Жыл бұрын
Not really. You don’t wanna be mixed you don’t wanna have to split your evs and having two types using different stats kinda forces that onto blaziken. Blaziken either has to massively sacrifice it’s already questionable speed or just not invest in the other offense if it runs mixed both not necessarily good for it. Without significant special investment you can’t ko skarmory nor have a chance to ohko with thunder punch gyrados which is a very common switch in if running thunder punch. Swampert gets defensive value out of its type combo even if it makes offense awkward but fire fighting isn’t really a defensive god of a typing. Blaziken is a mon which you are always wishing you had something else in its toolkit no matter what set you are running. Blaziken can’t really stay on the field because of its low speed and bulk so it needs those hits where it’s punishing a switch in because the opponent is switching out their slow bulky mons into something that can outspeed and threaten it to matter a lot so not reaching those ko benchmarks is a very big deal. Lowering its speed however lowers the amount of opportunities it has to threaten something out/ ko the opponent so maxing out both offensive stats isn’t exactly ideal either ( but I would say it’s the better option since the opponent doesn’t know you didn’t invest in speed and may still act as such until the damage you do reveals it)
@yonkodude Жыл бұрын
@@ultimaterecoil1136thats not always the case you can run a speedy blaziken with max attack to ruin things like ttar blissey and even uninvested fire blast will ko skarmory and hp grass after chip damage from a physical move most of the time kos swampert, not to mention that its speed tier is perfect for its role as a wall breaker on both sides of the spectrum as the only pokemon to rlly outspeed it are pokemon it doesnt have good match ups against anyway like aero and jirachi. Mixed attackers aren’t inherently good as they do lose power for flexibility but well made ones like blaziken salamance and especially iron valiant prove that sometimes the ability to break through both physical and special walls is invaluable to a team
@ultimaterecoil1136 Жыл бұрын
@@yonkodude for one you liar 0 SpA Blaziken Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Skarmory: 255-300 (76.3 - 89.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery you need investment to ohko skarormy and that’s assuming you further tank either your speed or bulk by not running a adamant nature like a physical attacker typically would ( which is 0 SpA Blaziken Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Skarmory: 255-300 (76.3 - 89.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery If curious). On a related note its speed tier isn’t really consistent for handling walls. The magneton lure sets will outspeed blaziken if you choose to go max offensive investment to make sure you hit all the ko benchmarks you need which on the rare occasion they run drill peck you could unfortunately have this happen 252 Atk Skarmory Drill Peck vs. 80 HP / 0- Def Blaziken: 285-336 (88.7 - 104.6%) -- 31.3% chance to OHKO. As someone whose actually used blaziken in the past and had the unfortunate luck of getting my wallbreaker ohkoed by a perceived wall If you go full offensive investment to maximize breaking power go minus special defense nature not minus not defense. It shouldn’t matter in 99% of interactions but it might save you exactly once. Even if they aren’t running drill peck you can die to hp ground crit so you can’t exactly be 100% certain you are safe vs skarmory without both speed and special attack investment and that’s one Of the most important matchups for a fire type even having the potential to lose that matchup one vs one makes your value on the special end dubious. Assuming you are gonna settle for not running special investment you would be much better off with camerupt for its increased longevity and explosion if you really wanted a mixed attacker fire. It’s better to have the bulk Camerupt has if blaziken is sometimes outspeed by the walls it’s supposed to break anyway making the value of its extra speed dubious at times.

The thing I like the most about pokemon made in the third generation (it can also can be applied to gen 4), is how a lot of them were made with flaws and strenghts in mind. And also, a lot of them with different niches in mind. While Heracross was made as a strong guts /swarm attacker, or Breloom as a Spore user that can also diche out strong hits (while being balanced in gen 3 due to grass being special), Blaziken has his amazing movepool and offensive stats cut short by its speed. And I love that about it. The reason ADV OU is starting to be, by far, my favourite OU tier, is how every pokemon has its flaws. And so, a lot of niche Pokémon can be used in the tier. The power level is not that high, but at the same time defensive pokémon can be countered with good plays. It's really cool
@Zmeeed0111 ай бұрын
True. The lack of OP defensive abilities (Regenerator, Magic Bounce, etc.) and the only good offensive items available being Choice Band and pinch berries somehow balance each other out perfectly, making mixed attackers and good prediction more important in general. Also, I really like Focus Punch being a meta move in Gen 3. It's a very respectable "big balls" move.

This video reminded me of good memories I had back in the late gen 3/gen 4 days. I loved Blaziken and when I learned about EVs and other caspects of breeding for competitive pokemon, I spent a good several days breeding and training Torchics specifically to make a mixed sweeping Blaziken with no knowledge of how to get good IVs other than feeding them rare candies and comparing stats. I even took the time to get a Torchic to level 42 to learn Flamethrower to pass down. A friend of mine had a lot of pride in his Level 86 Suicune, but didn't know or want to understand anything about EVs or natures, and wanted to fight my team of mostly competitively bred pokemon at the time. My Blaziken was at level 70, but it very quickly swept his entire team, including defeating the Suicune in 2 hits. The guy ragequit as soon as it fell.

@@johnbanks1069 somewhat disagree. Typhlosion being able to 1v1 Gengar, Zapdos and Jolteon are very welcomed advantages to using him over Charizard or Moltres on a team that features other flyers. Spikes damage is actually appreciated on a Swarm / Blaze / Torrent / Overgrow mon because it can be used to get into range. The bigger threat is Dugtrio, but the common scenario is you switch your fire type in on something it threatens. You sub when they run, and in comes Duggie. 1). It’s good to know there are still men willing to fight emus. 2). What nature(s) would you recommend running? More speed or power at the cost of defenses?

when I was a kid, the first Pokemon game I ever got/played was Pokemon Ruby on my Gameboy advance... Blaziken was my first Pokemon, nicknamed Killer 😂 Also my first level 100, and the kicken chicken remains one of my all time favorite Pokemon to this day. I remember finding out that killer was a girl and my 10 year old boy brain had trouble reconciling it, but things came to a tragic end when my mom made me let my friend play my Pokemon game and he SAVED over my play file with a level 15 treeko 😢 poor Killer... I was mad for weeks... But her legacy remains haha

I wonder if jimothycool has been playing any gen 3 recently? Let me just check his uploads 😂

I know this is old but ive been playing gen 3 OU and got myself up to 1350 on the ladder so far, still clawing my way up and Blaziken is amazing at taking out the meta, but I use a couple different ideas. I use overheat instead of fire blast which gives blaziken a seriously threatening move against gengar, and my 4th move is substitute, blaziken forces a lot of switches and sub lets blaze beat out normal threats like the dug trap, and threaten to win the 1v1 on swampert without chip getting two hp grasses in

It’s just a worse Heracross in that context tbh.

0:05 made me laugh. "And perhaps the coolest fictional chicken of all time!..." lol. I see why Blaziken is different than most mixed attackers though because it has both high attack AND special attack unlike Tyranitar and Salamence who have a massive attack stat but a much less powerful special attack that can be worked with. Oh, and yeah the STAB helps too. Probably the archenemy of both Blissey and Skarmory for those reasons!

I mean, mence special attack is actually high, it just lacks stab

Old Money cannot be allowed to purchase gen 9 OU but what I’m more concerned about is how easily Finch said yes to the deal… Iron Fellow might have done something behind the scenes.
