Most gen 9 top tier mons don't even rely on signature moves, and the ones that do often have good but not particularly outstanding moves. Kowtow cleave is just a good physical stab move, thunderclap is a special electric sucker punch, and it goes similarly for a lot of other mons. The only actually broken signature move that comes to mind, tbh, is walking wake's hydro steam. Oh, and jet punch I guess, but palafin is banned so whatever. EDIT: I forgot the electric move from archaludon.

I think snorlax should get slack off at this point, its lack of an instant recovery move in the modern day is just so bad. If it got slack off it would at the very least be useable and with all the crazy things these days it would not be op. Bulky Pokémon without recovery either need to be really tanky with good typing or very offensively threatening and snorlax just isnt those things anymore, I doubt it would even hit UU with a recovery move at this point.

Metagross is probably one of the most overly nerfed Pokemon in history when you look at it: * Explosion no longer halves defense, making it generally terrible aside from some fringe pivot niches (Gen V) * Meteor Mash nerfed from 100BP to 90BP (Gen VI) * Steel losing its Ghost & Dark resists, now giving Metagross 2 extra weaknesses to 2 of the most spammable offensive types (Gen VI) * Due to the above, it is now also vulnerable to being Pursuit trapped as well as Magnet Pulled (Gen VI) * Pursuit removed from the game, killing one of Metagross' best niches (Gen VIII) * Lost Toxic, killing even more of its utility as well as one of its only answers to bulky Waters & Grounds (Gen IX) This isn't even counting meta trends which were terrible for it either, such as Scald & Knock Off being the freeest zero downside clicks of all time with both potentially crippling Metagross, or Bulky Waters & Grounds being everywhere. And in an era where so many Pokemon have insane abilities or boosting moves, Metagross only having Cosmic Power or Agility as viable boosting moves and being stuck with Clear Body or god damn Light Metal stings more and more each generation. Even it getting Shift Gear wouldn't move the needle much for it anymore. Let my boy be on top again :(

I truly believe that Metagross has been underbuffed compared to some of its other brethren. After being nerfed in Gens 5 and 6, it got almost nothing significant (mega excluded) until Gen 9, where the powercreep has gone too far. I think a new ability would go a long way for it, the way Moxie or Multiscale really helped the dragons. Light Metal is just a garbage ability.

Starmie would fit incredibly well in the modern meta. It matches other hazard control mons like Great Tusk, Glimmora, Cinderace, Iron Treads, and Gliscor. Its utility is high and the only thing holding it back is its lack of power and bad dual typing.

You missed Gyarados making a pretty big comeback in Gen 8, where it was genuinely broken in BSS. It was one of the (if not THE) best Pokemon to Dynamax early on, with Max Airstream boosting its speed and Max Geyser summoning free rain, it was really unstoppable.

Tbh, I still use Forretress all the time. Just because he's not as op as he used to be doesn't mean he's not good anymore. I sometimes even run banded just because I can, and his atk and movepool are definitely decent enough for it. Forretress is best bug/steel imo. (Though Escavalier needs more love.)
