Always lovely to see my old Morrison's Academy and then Aberdeen University OTC chum Gus Clarke (decked out as a sergeant piper here) playing solo leading the Atholl Highlanders colour party and of course my old regimental Royal Scots Dragoon Guards commanding officer Mel (now Sir Mel HM Lord Lieutenant of Perth and Kinross, Brigadier Sir Melville Jameson KCVO, CBE, CStJ. Je!) one of the best and nicest gentlemen you could ever wish to meet.

Excellent video.....BECAUSE OF THE WEATHER...…..,brings back fond memories. As a piper, I remember few parades where it was NOT raining, but we carried on regardless, in true Scottish style. What's a wee bit of rain?

The Duke of Athol is the only person in Europe licensed to maintain a private army. But he must do that or forfeit the right. The title itself nearly failed (passed out of existence) at the death of the last Duke, but they were able to find a qualified male heir. The current Duke who has a printing business and lives in South Africa has the requisite male "heir and a spare" to ensure the continuance of the title. The Duke himself owns nothing of what you see here. All the properties, lands and other assets of the Dukedom were seized by the women of the family a few generations ago because the men were about to lose the estate through sheer incompetence, and to this day the all-woman board runs the Dukedom as a quite successful for-profit enterprise. Meanwhile, theDuke only shows up once or twice a year for these ceremonial occasions.

@@JimRamsayJWR The Marquis was carrying the Murray Colors. And did the inductions. Major Bullough, always accompanies the Duke or in this case the Earl. Lt. Lord David Murray, was unable to make it, so his brother, Cpt. Marquees of Tullibardine filled in for him.
