Scots Guards Troops & 2-SCOTS The Royal Highland Fusiliers P&D - Escort to The Crown

Saturday 2nd October 2021 saw the covid delayed 6th Royal Opening of The Scottish Parliament ceremony.
This actually begins at Edinburgh Castle where the Duke of Hamilton takes the Crown of Scotland from it's secure home in the Crown Jewels secure room inside of Edinburgh castle to the waiting Rolls Royce 1 vintage classic car.
Rolls Royce 1 crosses the drawbridge of Edinburgh Castle at 10:04am where the F Company of the Scots Guards and 2-SCOTS The Royal Highland Fusiliers wait to provide the Escort to the Crown.
At 10.05 am on the dot the parade moves off down the Royal Mile and my camcorder decides its not going to focus! Jeeze!

I remember hearing Gurkha pipers practising in Gun Club Barracks in Hong Kong, so long ago that one of them could be the Pipe Major's father. Thanks for doing these videos.

When I was little I saw a WW2 movie and I was deeply impressed by the lone piper who put the fear of death into the Germans. I still remember 70 years later

Hi Jim, a good video.. I note that you write that the Duke of Edinburgh took the Crown of Scotland. I thought that it was the Duke of Hamilton who held this privilege.

It is the Duke of Hamilton. The Duke of Rothesay now holds the title Duke of Edinburgh.

I thought that but the tartan on his kilt and plaid is slightly different ? Are you you sure he is a Gurkha? Unusual to be re badged as they seem to have a lot of pipers ? Most bands I have seen on here not have much more than ten pipers

@@madjock2878 There’s a photograph of him piping at the National Arboretum in Gurkha uniform, at least I think it’s him. Transfers between units do happen but possibly unusual for a role such as P/M.

@@Scipionic1941 my pipe major was a Gordon then was pipe major of the Argyll & Sutherlands. So i know it happens. Just saying its good but unfortunate for pipers in any regiment to have an " outsider" come in and block your path to pipey thank goodness i was an RAF Engineer

@@madjock2878 the reason the tartan of the kilt and plaid is different is because the PMaj and DMaj wear staff tartan as they are in staff appointments.

@@madjock2878 he is a Gurkha, he transferred to the regiment as pipe major. He is part of the reason the band has a lot of pipers, he has done a lot of hard work re building and recruiting.

How can you find out when these events are going to take place. Is there a public calendar? I got in touch with the Government at Holyrood last year and they could not give me any information on when the State opening might take place.

Jim that isn’t the Duke of Edinburgh in the car that’s the Duke of Hamilton …as far as I know the current holder of the Duke of Edinburgh doesn’t use it he uses Duke of Rothesay ie the Prince Charles …unless he was in the crown room he wouldn’t have touched the crown Great vid tho and the Guards as usual do what they do best

@Ryan also in Scotland the air to the throne uses the title Duke of Rothesay …not as south of the Border Prince of Wales or Duke of Cornwall …. Those titles are not recognised in Scotland as such …even Prince William has his Scottish title, not the Duke of Cambridge … The Duke of Hamilton is the hereditary bearer of the Scottish Crown …. The current holder is the 16th Duke and he apart from the Duke of Rothesay is the senior Duke in the Scots peerage
