I hear up evertime. I have been at military funerals and a funeral for a couple of police officers back home. In August 2019 I learned I have Scottish ancesters that date back to the 13th century. My maternal grandparents came from Finland. That is all the family knew. They are all gone now. I have Scottish, Swedish and Finnish on my mom's side. Plus Viking.

At the 2003 Edinburgh Tattoo there was a notable gap in the initial parade of the masses pipes and drums of about 10 soldiers. The MC pointed out the gap to the crowds , and then said ‘ but they flew in today from Iraq , please welcome the Black Watch.’ .. they marched in playing the pipes all dressed in desert fatigues.. there wasn’t a dry eye in the place....

All pipe bands are brilliant, but I think I will have to vote for 3 Scots, The Black watch, they seem to have a perfect balance and very crisp drumming, with a bass drum cutting through at just the right volume!

Best pipeband in the world has to be either Field Marshall Montgomery, or Inveraray and District. Army pipebands are good dont get me wrong. But the chance with them winning any competition with the tunes the pipers play, and the beats the drummers play along with, the chance is very small

Civilian pipe band snare drummer here. The 3rd Battalion Scots Guards pipe band came over to compete in a grade 3 contest in Virginia in 2017, and came dead last in a field of 6. Military players are soldiers first, musicians second. And there's absolutely nothing wrong with that! But there are many civilian bands that are much better musicians.

Dan Evans That must have been an awesome competition, were Bill and Ted the judges as time travel must have been involved considering the 3rd Battalion, Scots Guards was disbanded in 1946.........The 1st Battalion is the only full bttn left, the 2nd is perpetuated by F Company which is public duties.

dislike injustice you cant really talk about other peoples hardship when you have no clue what theyve been through, players for bands like invararay and field marshall have way way more talent and musical competency than anyone in those army bands, and every player from an army band has been kicked out in 6 months for being snobby, entitiled and trying to take control

From America, but half Scottish…..this is incredible and gives me chills. People should learn more more about the history of their countries (e.g… Queen Mary of Scots is the person from whom the current English throne has had their descendants)
