This blows the studio version out of the water. Nirvana was meant to sound raw and unpolished like this.

It's not punk. It's grunge
@danzargy6 жыл бұрын
@@mercy1707 Grunge was more or less a blanket term that applied to bands that came out out of Seattle or around that area at the time. Nirvana was definitely more punk-oriented than say, Alice In Chains, who are more metal/alternative metal. So yeah, OP was right in saying this was a punk song, kinda.

They must have known that they had something amazing going on. This song sounds fucking awesome even in this rough demo version. But it's not easy to get there, to write a song that is catchy and melodic and yet powerful, then have a band that can play, and have a singer who can really extract all the potential.
@nogglebeak2 жыл бұрын
i don't think they added any potential... they just had vig to pretty up what was, to me, their best attribute. they were always this good and the raw sound is so much better than the studio sound.

This tape sounds good, aside from sounding a little winded up. Quick question for you guys: If Nevermind didn’t come out and sheep (with chad, of course) came out instead, would Chad still be let go and Dave’s first Nirvana gig not happen, or would it have been a different story? What would happen with Nirvana if this was the case?

Robert Tyll No problem man! If you want to avoid hunting for an old guitar, Eastwood guitars out of Canada makes reproduction Univox humbuckers (under the name "Eastwood high flyer pickups"). that sound spot on(I own origonals aswell as reproductions), for this sound you want the bridge pickup mainly. 300k pots is what the factory used as they are bright sounding for a humbucker, but I got 500k pots in one of mine with these pickups and it sounds just fine to. OH also very important, 10-52 gauge strings. for some reason the Univox Pickups just like that gauge. Glad to help!

You can expect that from a demo recording of a song, especially if it was recorded ona cassette tape (when a tape gets played so much, it eventually starts playing 0.5x the original speed).

I don't know why people think I did it. I got all these tracks way back from an old bootleg CD that used to circulate in the 90's. I didn't do it, I'd have no reason to. Also I posted these when I was like 13. The bootleg cd was a well known one called The Rough Tapes and at the time a lot of these versions were rarities.
