My tensioner pulley was making a chirping noise. Very noticeable at startup. A bit of WD40 kept it quiet for a few days. I finally got a round to removing and replacing just the tensioner pulley. Watched many videos which pointed out key actions to avoid headaches. Part was about $15 for a Gates brand. Despite being a rookie, took me about 30 minutes. The entire tensioner assembly with pulley runs about $60, which I contemplated replacing instead (as shown in Jim's video here),...but chose the simpler solution,...even though that tensioner may need work in a year or two or more. Thanks Jim for all of the great videos!!

Excellent walk through on this job! I recently thought my tensioner was bad but it turns out that my new belt is squeaking. I bought the tensioner tool to take care of the issue myself and keep the tool for future use. Also, this video is much brighter (with nice white light) and of higher pixel quality than some of your previous videos. The only suggestion that I have is to use a torque wrench and provide the specs for us watching. Great job on the improvement filming and thanks again for the great walk through of this job!

Hello Jim, my 2003 honda accord serpentine belt got damaged. it ripped off partially and while the car is running, it damaged the electrical wire sheath running near the belt at the bottom. it ripped of the plastic covering of the three wires inside the sheath and made the copper wires tangled with each other. My car stopped running. I managed to separate the wires with electrical tape but my car wont starting and the battery voltage keep getting low. I tried new battery and also jump starting car but of no avail.

Great how to. Wondering if it's necessary to do the whole timing belt kit or can you just do the belt on its own.

I did the tensioner on my 4cyl 05 Camry and had to raise the engine to get one of the bolts out. Working in the engine bay would be so much easier if they would just give a little more room.
@jimthecarguy5 жыл бұрын
I know with that one you will need to lift the engine to get the bolt out. Thank you for watching
@rgraz49299 ай бұрын
If you can't get to the bottom bolt with a deep socket, then you can always remove the pully from the new tensioner, mount the tensioner, and then put the pully back on.

How much would this cost for a shop to do this repair parts + labor VS buying it and doing it ourselves? Thanks for the video, I've just inspected mine and could hear the grinding noise from the bearing bolt :(. I am planning to do this replacement this weekend.

Nice Video. I really need your advice on my 2007 Honda Odyssey . 2 months ago, I was at a stop sign, suddenly the van was making the high pitch sound then smoked and the steering wheel was heavy and "BOOM" the balancer and a pulley fell off the engine hood. Van was towed to Firestone, They replaced the parts and the belt. Then 1 month ago, I was sitting in the van while it was on parking gear. " Boom" the pulley which just replaced from Firestone, fell off from the engine again, I noticed the bearing was broke in half. Van was towed again. They replaced the parts of the warranty. Now the AC kicks in and off...the the freon is good...I don't know what is going on here. I m scared to drive it when my kids are with me. The van is 92000 thousand miles now. What's going to happen if the parts fall off the engine while I m driving 60 miles an hour? Should I sell this van? Is it worthy to keep driving? I really appreciate your advice. Thank you so much
