Jim, thank you for posting this video. It was a huge help and You saved me. I watched this before changing my front rotors and pads. It was my first time doing a brake job in many years. When I went to reinstall the caliper, the caliper bolt holes wouldn’t line up. I could get one, but not the other. I double checked everything and couldn’t figure out what the problem was. I went back and watched your video again. At 9:40 you mentioned how the caliper pins only fit one way. As soon as I rotated them to the correct position, bam, the caliper went back on with ease. Thanks again. Subscribed.

Just had to remove the caliper brackets on my '14 Forester and the bolts were so seized that three of the four snapped in the bracket... Wish they had come off as easy as yours did in this video.

Thanks, that's the most detailed video I've seen on replacing the pads and rotors. I've always taken the pads out without removing the bracket, which involves some pounding...next time I'll remove the bracket like you guys did. I also appreciate that you deal with some rust, which I get also. Thanks again.

Jim you are the brake master! Good job with the vid! It's a lot cleaner being on the camera side of things rather than doing both. :-)

I didn't see you go back to torque the caliper bracket bolts or caliper bolts and you should have removed the pins and boots the caliper slides on inspect for wear, clean it up lube the pins and replace rubber boot if needed. Also did not see you inspect rubber boots or caliper pistons. Some very important steps when doing brake job

I would have a long breaker bar handy, the caliper bracket bolts can be a real bear especially in rust belt states. Thanks for sharing.

Jim, my wife is getting shaking in a front wheel. You mentioned cleaning the hub assembly with the grinder but would a bad slide pin do something similar?

What size wrench or socket did you use for the caliper mounting bracket? Also do you have torque specs? Thanks for a great video.

Hi mate, Doing mine this weekend and am wondering if you have those torque specs handy as you said you'd come back to torque them in later, but I think you didn't mention the specific numbers on that? Cheers from Australia

Great Video. However, I usually check and re-lubricate the caliper pins even if they are sliding freely.

A 17mm 3/8 drive socket and short extension will fit on that upper bracket bolt so you can use a torque wrench on it.

Admirable job, and I thank you guys, although I must say there are many, many better-executed videos out there showing how to perform DIY brake jobs (i.e. less talk, more torque) step-by-step.

I understand changing the rotor If you are getting brake pulsations. But, I do not understand why you are replacing the brake pads. Please explain

I guess from the looks of the brake pads, they looked brand new and since Jim did not mention uneven wear my assumption was that they wear reusable. Last brake job on my Dodge minivan the rotors were warped and I replaced them, but keep the same pads. I've had no issue with this repair. Just saying

I am guessing the pads don't cost a lot of money (maybe $30 for a set), but he reuses the pads and for some reason the customer complains and brings back the car, it's a hour of lost labor time. If it was my own car, I'd reuse the pads too, but when you run a business, you don't want complaining customers.

Not every repair shop would go through the trouble Jim does to make sure the brakes don't squeal, vibrate, or otherwise be less than 100% perfect. For example, who do you know would file down the brake pad mounting points or remove the rust off the hub? If you are good at what you do, people will seek you out and pay top dollar.

Doesnt help you figure out how to change the pads and only the pads all that much, its the whole shebang, minus how to get the pads out, that part is off camera.
